View Full Version : Glasses on Rides

Myself and my DD (9) both wear glasses. My DD is worried that if she needs to take her glasses off to ride the rides then she will not be able to see all the cool things.
So do you need to take your glasses off for any of the rides?
Does anybody have any suggestions so that she can still wear them? (she is too young for contact lenses).
Thanks
Trish

Hubby has one of those eyeglass strings (they sell them at WDW and have Mickey heads on them) that he uses.
I take my glasses off on Test Track and Thunder Mountain. I probably don't need to, but those are the two rides I worry the most on.

I'm 64 and they didn't try to take my glasses and I sure have seen a lot of sunglasses on the rides. If it will make her more comfortable, get one of those elastic bands that hold glasses on. Carry it, but don't use it unless requested.

I've never had to take my glasses off on a ride, but I don't do any upside down coasters either. I too suggest one of those elastic band things if it'll make her feel better.

My daughter 5 (will be six soon) started wearing glasses. I will want her wearing them so she can see the shows etc. I was also concerned about the rides she loves TEst track, BTM so I guess i should buy some girlish looking glass strings then.

Isn't it amazing that you can get such response quickly on the UOG?

Wow what a quick response! I will let my DD know that she probably won't need to take off her glasses (and me too) she will be pleased.

The only time I have ever taken my glasses off is if I have forgotten my strap or it is raining.

I don't do coasters, other than Big Thunder Mountain, and I've not ever taken my glasses off (not even on Test Track or Mission Space). Wouldn't be able to see a thing.
I do switch from sunglasses to regular lenses sometimes though. Some attractions, like Splash Mountain are already dim so the sunglasses would interfere with my vision.
Oh, and the ONE time I rode Space Mountain I did not take off my glasses.

i normally take my glasses off riding BTM, but on our last trip i wore contacts and it was great not having to worry about my glasses, did keep them in the car though in case one of my lens fell out

:laughat:
I kept my glasses on for Dumbo too. :D
I think I kept mine on for all of them, even the upside down rides. I had strings, not the elastic band thing, but if they did come off they'd still be round my neck or whacking me in the face so I wouldn't lose them. I had to push them back on a couple of times on Space Mountain but don't remember any other problems.

DD managed to drop her sunglasses in the water on the flying carpets of all things! they won't let you fish them out either, they do it at the end of the day and you have to call back to City Hall to collect them next day!

I dont normally take my glasses off for the majority of rides, only RNRC and tower of terror but thats only because the view over the park scared me the first time I went on and then dropped.

Hi all
Just wondering if any of you wear contact lenses? I am considering getting them but am not sure if l will like them. Last year on holiday l got fed up having to keep changing from my glasses to sunglasses every time l went in and out of places. Also this year l am going to go to discovery cove and would like to be able to see the dolphins, but don't think wearing glasses in the water is a good idea. Although l've been told you can't wear contacts for swimming. What do you think, would contacts be fine for day at discovery cove?

When I wore contacts, I loved them. They make them so you don't even feel them. You can get daily wear (you just wear them for the day and then throw them away....I had these, you don't have to clean them or store them or anything), or you can get the ones that you keep (can't remember what they're called, it's been awhile). You have to clean them every day and soak them over night.
If you decide to get them, your optomitrist (sp) will let you try on a pair before you buy any. That way if you can tolerate them, you'll know!

When I was able to wear contacts they were awesome. Too bad my eyes have gotten so bad....
As for wearing my glasses on rides, I keep them on for everything. And I ride everything :D

I love my contacts. I have disposable ones that I change every two weeks. I don't have to buy as many as the daily wear people do but I don't have to use the enzyme stuff either. I take mine out every night but I don't have to. I could wear them for a couple of days if I needed to. I am allergic to some of the cleaners so the disposable ones work best for me. They have lots of brands and types so you should be able to find one that works for you. I wear mine when swimming but if I am swimming under water I have to wear a mask.

I wear contacts full time. When we go to WDW DH (you know, the one who won't wear glasses on ToT as it scares him :rotfl: ) has worn disposable contacts. He also did that when we went to Discovery Cove. I think I can speak for him when I say he was pleased he did it, no need to worry about not seeing the dolphins.
I'm sure he'll agree (but of course he will, I'm always right :D)

I used to take mine off when i was on the RnR.
I was most concerned then, because without them I cannot see anything a few inches from my face.
When I was 15 though I got contacts, now i only miss all the great seeing that i can do when I swim :(

I've always worn glasses & my 11 year old daughter has worn them the past 4 visits & we've never had problems except for irritation when trying to wear those 3-D glasses overtop of our seeing glasses. Now that's a look! If you think you can't look any dorkier in those things just look for me & my double-glasses.

I'm right there with you Big Thunder! At least those three D glasses are bigger than those little ones they used to give you for Spectacle of Lights at MGM Studios! Those get up the seriously dorky look!

I've worn contacts full time for 6 years now and the only thing you can't do with them in is open your eyes underwater without goggles because they'll fall out and/or become irritated and dried out. Other than that, you should be ok.

   Funny you mention that.
We still have our "paper" Osbourne glasses & we broke them out this year & went outside on our driveway to look at our lights & the neighborhood lights through them. I thought I was safe as it was later & dark outside but no, here comes my next door neighbor over to see what we're doing. Yes, I loved being caught w/the little glasses over my glasses.

Don't I know it. Attractive, aren't they? Especially when they sit crookedly on your nose.
