We're flying to Disney in June...DD will be 16m and I don't think we will be getting her a separate ticket. If she's not paying for a seat is she allowed to have a carry-on bag?

One more question.....what about her stroller? We're going to be getting an umbrella stroller for the trip. Does this count as a carry-on item? How many items is each person allowed?

I'm guessing that each airline will be different as to the rules about carry on bags and how many you are allowed. I would probably call your airline or check their web site just to be sure. I'm not sure about the strollers, but someone with little ones will probably be along shortly to help you out.

...moving this over to the transport board...

Breeze is so right that each airline has their own rules regarding carry on luggage. I was surprised to find out even the sizes allowed can vary.

Most airlines will gate check your stroller. That means you roll it right up to the door of the aircraft and they take it from you there and put it in the luggage compartment. Then, you collect it as you get off the airplane.

Which airline are your taking?

They aren't making you buy a seat for your 16 month old? We went when DD was 18m and had to buy her a seat. Maybe every airline is different? Just curious. :)

Yes they should take it of you as you board the plane and put it in the hold.
Yes every airline is different, and 100% correct to call the airline, and dont forget to get that full name of who you speak to...

I guess I'll have to call the airline directly and ask them some questions. I always heard (from friends, etc) that you don't have to buy baby a ticket until age 2. Also, I read on Delta's website that if you have a stroller that folds up (i.e. an umbrella stroller) that you can put it in the overhead compartment or under your seat. And, I think that if it doesn't fit they will let you put it in the storage closet. I just don't want to check it because we *definitely* want it for the airport. (changing planes) I can't imagine carrying her that long!

Well im not 100% on U.S procedures but in Europe, if the stroller is put into the hold, then they will bring it to the bridge/stairs when you exit the plane so you shouldn't have top worry about this. Hopefully they'll fit it on the plane for you

Most airlines only allow carry-on baggage for those who hold a ticket. This is because on a full flight there is a hard enough time getting all the baggage into the overhead bins.
