View Full Version : Well I finally got it - my new phone! HELP!

So let's talk ring tones. I'm a little confused (ok, I'm a lot confused) about the costs involved. For example, the following information was stated about downloading some Disney ring tones:
$0 - 1 day demo
$4.69 - 3 use purchase
$11.99 - 10 use purchase
$1.99 - 1 use purchase
Ok. I understand $0. Free is always good. However, what do they mean by "1 use purchase" or "10 use purchase"? Does this mean it costs me $1.99 every time the phone rings with that tone? Or does it mean I can only use it once? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and it also says "Airtime is required for use". What does that mean?

It's a shame that they have to charge such prices for things. I'm surprised they don't charge for every note it plays in the ring tone.

wdwgrandma,
I have only downloaded ringtones a couple of times, but I believe 1 use purchase means you can add it to one phone. I believe there are some folks who change their ring tones according to the season, so they would probably like the multiple use plan.
I "think" the reason they may say airtime is required is because you have to be activated in order for your phone to ring...

Are you using the 'Get it now' website? I'm wondering if they have a FAQ button?

Yeah, I am using that site! I checked out something there that was supposed to explain it, but I was more confused after... Oh well, if I want the tones, I guess I'll just download them and see how it works!

My little brother brought me a CD full of them. I just gave him a blank look like what do I do with them on here?! :nutty: I handed my phone over and he did them for me but I have the disc still if it's any use

Ok, I've checked the FAQ and it is a little confusing! They have used the word 'use' as in credit. The amount of 'use' you choose equals how much credit it will cost you - 1 use/credit = $1.99 meaning one ring tone. Once that ring tone is downloaded to your phone its in the memory of the phone and yours to keep and free to use. Obviously the more uses you buy the more money you save if you get my drift! Hope this helps Donna!

A CD full of ringtones? How in the world did he get them from the CD to your phone? Are they Disney ring tones?
The Disney ring tones on Get It Now doesn't include two that I would like: When You Wish Upon A Star, and the Haunted Mansion theme....

January 5th, 2005, 15:37
I shouldn't have gone here...I'm confused too. With my phone service, It's a one time fee of whatever the ringtone I want costs (between $1.50 to $2.50) I then keep the tone in my phone.
I want that CD!!! Just so I can take days figuring out how to load them on my phone!

I got a Motorola V710. It plays ring tones, takes photos and videos, let's me store email addresses in a person's profile, has GPS... Does everything but the laundry! LOL

Wouldn't that be awesome? I have a HM .wav file on my PC that plays when certain people email me... I'm not sure the phone will accept .wav files, tho.

you know.. I think that phone can accept .mp3 files as ringtones! so you could have a proper haunted mansion theme on there if you can get it on there somehow. Did it come with a cable to attach to the computer? (there's other options like infra red or bluetooth from your laptop if you have one)

I listened to the Disney ones that you get from Get It Now, and they don't really sound all that "good", if you know what I mean. They don't sound like the "real" song. Just sort of like "computer generated" versions....

January 5th, 2005, 16:45

PaulaK,
If you emailed it to Donna's phone's email address (whatever it may be :) )
Or, if you email an attachment to Donna's regular email, she could download it to her memory card and get it to her phone that way...

It's probably more accurate to say that phones can check email these days.. in fact Paula yours could probably check whatever email you'd normally check on your pc/mac with a little (very little) bit of setup <G>
Soooooo.... once Donna knows which email address her phone is either already setup with or could be setup with <G> you can just email with an attachment and there's an excellent chance Donna can receive the email and save the ringtone :)

I'd be really surprised if you can't setup one of the email accounts you already have with the phone.... :/ need to look at the specs again but does it say anywhere that you can set it up for POP3/IMAP email?
wdwgrandma
January 5th, 2005, 19:58
That was for web access.... I don't have the specs with me, so I don't know if it allows for a POP3/IMAP email.
Keith
January 5th, 2005, 20:02
well on one page I found it says " Protocols Supported: POP3, SMTP, IMAP4
carrier-dependent"
Soooooo as long as the network hasn't purposely tied the phone to its own email accounts somehow you ought to be able to set it up to retrieve email from any other provider you have.. earthlink or whoever provides your email

It's not hard to setup a phone to check email it really isn't and I'm sure Donna knows there's help here if she needs it. Although my guess after all this is she's starting to think the built in ringtones are sounding better all the time

I know that Sprint assigns you an e-mail address when you use their web (Mine is something like cmoquin05@sprintpcs.com)
wdwgrandma
January 5th, 2005, 20:39
Yeah, I found the same info after I googled the model: Protocols Supported: POP3, SMTP, IMAP4 carrier-dependent. What I haven't been able to find in the phone itself is how to set this up. Oh, and I use Comcast as my email provider.
To get to the web from the phone, you have to "sign up" - hence the $4.99 a month fee.

Can understand in a situation like that. But don't understand...like my son will text message somebody when he is doing nothing  to one of his buddies who is pretty much doing the same thing, and I will ask him why he just doesn't call him. And he will tell me that maybe so and so is busy, and then I will tell him that is what voice mail is for  for when your busy, that way you don't have to answer the phone.

I have a QWERTY keyboard/4.5in screen on my phone, so texting is very easy for me.
I know a lot of people who like texting because when you ring an individual, you take a risk that the phone ringing will disturb what they are doing at the time. (Maybe the party you are trying to reach is in church service or at a movie or having a chat with an important client or in a class lecture, et'c.).
Then, there are some individuals who would like to communicate with folks, but they feel "put on the spot" when talking on the phone (I am in that category)--It almost feels like being put on stage and not being able to think of the lines. It is a very uncomfortable feeling. Texting is great because you can take the time to compose your thoughts and send it off to the individual. On the receiving end, if you have made an appointment with a friend, you have a record of it which you can review... (Instead of asking did she say 1 oclock or 2 oclock? :) )
