Whether they rooted for the national champion Southern California or the loser, Oklahoma, in Tuesday's Orange Bowl game, the 77,912 fans at Pro Player Stadium got a bonus: free admission to a Disney theme park.
Ticket stubs from the game can be redeemed between May 5, 2005, and Sept. 30, 2006, at any of Disney's 11 theme parks, including Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., where many USC fans are expected to cash in their stubs; the four parks in Florida; two in Paris; one in Tokyo; and the one scheduled to open in Hong Kong in September. The pretax price of an adult one-day ticket to Walt Disney World runs $59.75.
"It was to launch Disneyland's 50th anniversary," Disney spokesman Duncan Wardle said Wednesday of the theme park and resort company's largest ticket promotion ever. "We wanted to do something very different and very innovative."
Mickey Mouse made an appearance at the game when the promotion was announced between the third and fourth quarters. Fans shouted that they were "going to Disneyland" as part of an in-stadium version of Disney's "What's Next?" ad campaign that since 1987 has featured sports MVPs, among others, saying they plan to go to Disneyland or Disney World after their latest feat.
