Short of pitching a holy temper tantrum (which I am not above:whistle: ) what other information andor perks can i arm myself with to convince my (wretchedly stubborn) family to stay onsite?

I've already tried the but we don't know our way around fl well enough to make the commute defense. But unfortunately my dad (a living rand McNally) has a gps radar in his head (Oh why couldn't i have gotten that instead of his flat chest? I find my way around all major cities by their proximity to the mall)

I've tried the magic thing, no one's biting.

Where is that they want to stay? Who would want to stay offsite? Not sure how to convince them. But good luck.

If all else fails you can resort to the secret female weapon. Scream, shout, stamp your feet, cry, sulk and be a pain in the backside until they give in :D Not that I would dream of doing any of those things

Just a couple of reasons to stay on-site off the top of my head include:

Extra hours program for resort guest only, whether it be morning or night hours, the crowds are dramatically cut down and more opportunity to ride the "cool" rides.

Package delivery back to your resort. This has come in super handy when we see that "have-to-have" item upon entering the park, and don't want to carry it around with you the rest of the day.

If you are renting a car, all Disney resort guest receive free parking at the theme parks. I believe this to be a 8 dollar a day expense. However even when we do rent a car, it seems unless there are multiple stops to get to a destination, I will always choose Disney transportation over the car ride. As the driver, I would much rather let someone else take me there and just enjoy the ride. There are sometimes when the buses have shortcuts to get you to the park before sitting in a long line of traffic.

And last but certainly not least, you can stay on-site at a All-Star resort for anywhere from 79 to 115 dollars a night depending on season. If at least one person will be purchasing a season pass in the group, which is quite often an advantage if you weigh the savings of the resort stay against the ticket price, then you can stay at a value resort for as little as 49 to 60 dollars.

I know there are no absolutely convincing arguments here that fit every family or situation, but for my family, this is a sampling of why we choose to stay on-site, even though my wife works for the Hilton family of hotels and we could enjoy that discount off-site.

Good Luck with your family, and sorry to hear about the GPS -vs- chest thing.

You may try doing a bit of a presentation. Go to the websites & find rates & discounts for places at WDW. Print these up plus all the perks available to staying onsite & present it to your family in that way. Print up some of the posts from people here who say how much better it is to stay onsite.
The biggest reason to me is just it's constant Disney detail & attention 24/7. Until you've stayed there it's hard to understand.
Try! Try hard!

You can charge all WDW purchases to your room bill, so you have all the purchases listed on one bill, then you can sent all the purchases to your hotel so you don't have to carry them.

Convinience and just keep saying
"ONSITE ONSITE ONSITE ONSITE ONSITE ONSITE ONSITE" until they give in. that sort of thing works for the kids in my class at school so it should work for you too!

mistybeatle,
Is your sister also coming? (and your young nephews who will most certainly need to take a break every afternoon for a nap? ) Think of how convenient it would be to take a refreshing afternoon break if you are staying at at one of the WDW resorts. :D

we stayed on i drive in march 2004, previously we stayed in ASM & coronado springs,my husband was all for saving money etc etc by staying off site, how did we get on......well i will start by saying we have just booked for oct 2005 & my husband said we will stay on site at ASM, reasons being (besides all normal perks) The hotel on i drive was fine no complaints with the accomidation or location but..... the transportation shuttle bus was awful, we ended up spending a fortune on taxis the buses arrived either full or a mini bus for upwards of 50 passengers, some days when we went round corners the doors would fly open (not sure about the safety) it was a long walk to pick up the bus and after a long day its not what you want. Our "cheap" holiday actually cost us more than we normally pay and that for us was enough reason to stay on site this year!!!

In addition to what others have already posted, the expense of renting a car can now be eliminated if you stay on sight too. The new Magical express thing will provide free transportation from the airport to WDW and then you will have free Disney transportation during your whole stay when staying on sight - and then free transport back again to the airport.

So you can now also go with the "why have the expense of a rental car?" angle too ;)

my family and i are off to wdw on 14th feb 05 for 1 week satying onsite at all star movies resort.it is our first trip to florida and thought it best for our first week to stay onsite for the convernience.you can purchase goods from shops and have them delivered and billed to your room, there is free bus transport onsite,so really you don't need to hire a car. for our 2nd week of our holiday,we are going to st petes, when we will hire a car and do our sightseeing then and doing some much needed chilling out after wdw!!! have a gr8 time when you go!!!!
