You need to log in as the Administrator.
Not just someone with admin privleges but THE Administrator.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 00:34
I am the admin.

right click "my computer" select "manage"
From the computer management window click on the "event viewer" and see if there's any errors in application/security/system that explain what's going on

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 00:41
There is something listed under secutiry

Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Logon account: Owner
Source Workstation: MUFFY
Error Code: 0xC000006E

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The error means the account is locked.
Was this a company computer?

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 00:55
nope. Bought it from gateway a couple of years ago

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 00:58
Disable the account first.
Then try deleting.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:00
I'll try that.... i'm trying to get my now-ex's account off here.... don't need it, don't want it

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:03
It doesn't give me a disable option.

And worry not JD, I'm doing okay.

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 01:08
Is the login called Administrator or something like Kris?

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:12
Chris. The only options when Windows starts is Chris and John

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 01:17
That's what I said before.
XP wants Administrator. Not Chris as the admin.
You can't create a new Administrator.
The only things I can think of is try to restore pre boyfriend or put an XP disc in and tell it to repair.
I doubt either option is available.
This may be one of those rare moments where I would call for a full system restore.
Ahhhh. Yes. You don't have all the disks.

Lemme research this.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:18
But I'm listed as the computer admin. I should be able to delete the account.

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 01:22
Chris is the administrator.
XP wants the login Administrator which you changed.
It's a stupid MicroSoft glitch.

I may have a program that will let you in.
I'll let you know.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:23
Thanks JD

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 01:41
Shot in the dark here.

Log in as Chris.
Got to start menu switch user. Then login as Administrator. No password.
If that doesn't work. Try again with your password.

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 01:42
rats. didn't work on mine.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:43
If I go to switch user, I only have the two options

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 01:51
Right. I found it on mine in the Registry.
Problem is you can't tell which user is which.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 01:54
 of course not.

Well I can rename it so that's something

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 02:00
You should be able to rename it, yes.

I don't recommend this, and you know that I don't.

You could go to regedit and Find John.
Then delete every entry that comes up. F3 will find every next entry.
That may crash your computer.

A clean install is the best bet.
And you know I don't say that often.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 02:01
I know you don't but I am missing 2 of the 3 CDs needed to do that so.....

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 02:02
No. I remember.
You could call Gateway and give em all heck. http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 02:07
You might consider purchasing a copy of XP. :afraid:

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 02:08
Wonder if they would send me what I need.... it's not like I checked to see if I had all the recovery disks when I bought the computer.... who does that?!?!? (Probably everyone other than me right? )

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 02:15
Good point.

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 02:29
I hate to ask but how much would a copy of XP run me: :scared:

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 02:36
Close to $200 is what I paid for mine a year ago.
But I have it should a problem arise.

SorcererMickey
January 9th, 2005, 02:36
Gateway will send you the full disk with all the drivers (not only the repair disks but the full OS) for your laptop for a $10.00 shipping fee. You'll need the "Certificate of Authenticity" serial number from the bottom of the laptop. I had to order it for my neighbor a few months ago.

JacksDad
January 9th, 2005, 02:37
There ya go.
SM you rock! http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

JuniorMickey
January 9th, 2005, 02:41
I second what JD Said :) Thanks SM! I'll be calling gateway :D

SorcererMickey
January 9th, 2005, 02:42

JM, they'll make it very difficult, asking questions about the serial numbers, but in the end they'll send you a replacement copy.

 I can be very convincing when I need to so I'm not to worried about them giving me a hard time. Gateway has always been pretty helpful when I've called. Another year or so and I'll be shopping for a new computer :) The 20GB hard drive on this is killing me!

I remember when having two 5-1/4" floppy disk bays was top of the line. You could load the OS from one and use the other for loading programs. 20GB was unheard of  .

Mrs. SM just got this Toshiba (http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cmod.to?seg=HHO&coid=-27931&sel=0&rcid=-26367&ccid=1291021) and I enherited her old Toshiba with 10GB HD which is grrrrreat for just browsing. Mrs. SM calls it my UOG station :D .
