Hi there,
In full planning mode now!
We arrive in Floriday on 11th April at about 4pm. There are 4 of us going and a couple of which have never been before. I would like to organise a nice evening for our first night for us all to get us in the Disney mood and a good start to our vacation. We don't want to use a day of our hopper as we really won't get use out of a full day.
I am thinking a PS for Ohanas. Never been before so would like to know what everyone thought. I am thinking dinner a wonder round the resort and watch fireworks and EWP from the beach. What sorta time would I have to book my PS for enough time to watch the fireworks and EWP after? What time are the fireworks and EWP? What are everyones reviews of Ohanas? What sort of cost is it? And does this sound like a smashing first night or can people think of a nicer place to go?

We went in December and really enjoyed it. It gets the thumbs up from us  We liked the food but the kids didn't so they ordered a hotdog which wasn't a problem. The EWP and fireworks are at different times depending on park hours. I'd say you need about an hour to an hour and a half to eat beforehand. The food comes very quickly because it's being prepared all the time though. I took some photos of our food which i'll post on the UOG photo site for you so you can see. The meat they bring on the skewers was delicious, cooked to perfection!. I don't eat shrimp, but my step dad more than got his money's worth! The starter selection was nice and the coconut bread was delicious. It was one of the few places we couldn't manage desert! :D

For our first night we did the Hoop Dee Doo at Ft. Wilderness and it was wonderful. It may be hard for to get a PS for this close to your arrival date though, but who knows...worth a shot. I have read on here from others that this is how they always start there vacation out.

I loved Ohana's on the trip before or last one I attempted to get the wife to agree to going to Ohana's for dinner, she refused, said she wouldn't like it....and we didn't go. On our last trip in October I made PS for dinner...Needless to say when we went we had a great time and an excellent dinner, the kids (boy 9-girl 3) loved the food, which is grilled over an open wood fire. We did go to the cooking area to look around and talked to the chefs who obliged us and cooked some of the steaks medium for us. During dinner the host organises hula hoop contests and also a move the coconut with a broom game, any adults who participate learn, much to their chagrin, that they can only use the handle to move the coconut...The kids love the fact that they win !!
During dinner the Wishes fireworks show (our PS where for 8pm) started and they pipe the music in. Our table, while not adjacent to the window had an unobstructed view of the Mk and the fireworks show.
As for the food you get a sampler tray with egg rolls, green beans etc. served on a lazy susan on your table and replenished as often as you like. The buffet offering is actually the waiters bringing you either grilled steak, pork, turkey or shrimp served at your table on three foot long skewers. (the just push the amount you want on your plate with a fork) it is all you can eat you just don't have to get up to get it. Some other items are available but i didn't pay much attention to them. Deserts were great we had some type of tropical fruit cheesecake and the kids had ice cream. For the adults the cocktails are typically tropical and large.
We are going to WDW this year and now my wife has told me that Ohana is the number to PS reservation she will make, right behind Chef Mickey's for breakfast.
The resort is wonderfully themed and the beach on the lake is nice too. So it would make a good first night event.
I would also recommend going to DTD, the House of Blues is great, especially if a band that you may like is playing.
Have fun

Loved O`Hanas, we`re going to do it again this year. We requested a window seat at around 8.30pm and when the fireworks started at 9pm they dim the lights in there so you get the full effect of the fireworks. The food was great... ate sooo much it hurt! Lol!

We finally got to eat here last July and must agree the atmosphere/food etc was brilliant. We had a window seat and got a great view of wishes but the water pagent came by while we were eating and we saw very little as the view was restricted. I believe there was a later showing but we were that full we could not make it down to the beach to watch it :rotfl:

The shrimp is worth the cost of the meal alone.

I have booked Ohana's for my DD's 5th birthday dinner - I think I booked it for 6pm because of the age of our kids and the fact that it is our last night there and an early flight the next day. I am now thinking I should change it to 7:30 so that we can see the fireworks (this will be on April 9th). Any comments? Can you be in the main dining area and still see the fireworks or are the best tables out of the main area - I want the kids to be where the action is!
Any comments would be most welcome. Thanks.

There are several good spots in the main dining room to see the fireworks. When you reques the table, be specific. I've been sat near a window a couple of times and had an awesome view of the volcano pool (and you can't see anything but that)
What time is the fireworks that night?
