I have to get a new phone and DH says we should take the opportunity to buy a phone with PDA capability. So who am I to argue! http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I don't know much about them, have just started researching, so would love to hear any advice/experiences you might like to share. :wiggle:

Wow... where to start :) one of my fave topics :)
ok first thing is do you want a phone with a large screen? like a traditional pda. This one runs windows mobile so is very easy to use, massive screen http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=I-MATE_JAM
Or would you like a more traditional phone size which also has pda capabilities like:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=SMARTPHONE_3
Another favourite is the Palm treo 650.
It really depends on what you want, there's so much choice out there but feel free to ask ! I've got/tried loads of them ;-)

I have a Palm Treo 600...LOVE IT!
Mom has my old Tro 270..LOVES IT!
When T-Mobile comes out with the Treo 650....will be gettin it and giving Mom the 600!
I prefer the Palm OS...but that is what I started out with about a million years ago. Plus the 650 has the full QWERTY keyboard so texting isn't the pain it is with just the plain telephone keypad.
I use Quicken, check email, surf the web, grocery list, WDW e-guides to go, carry about 16 novels on the SD card....haven't figured out MP3's or you can actually watch movies on the darn thing!
Did I tell you I love this device??
PS...Okay I admit it...I would love to try the I-Mate...but don't have $1000 to blow...would even think of switching to Windows for that one...drool!

Thanks for the replies - the Treo does look pretty good, good to hear from someone who's actually using it.
How "expandable" is it - one of the things I want to use it for is my family history research and I need lots of room for that - I have over 65,000 names. http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/eek.gif
How good is the phone part; any problems?

I use T-Mobile here in the states and have had no problems with service...their customer support is awesome....they told me last week to look on e-bay for a Treo 600 cause they couldn't give a good price on one...
I have no memory problems...but I don't have 65,000 contacts! It can take an SD card and these come in huge sizes now...like 2 gig or something phenominal...don't know how you would save your address book in their but you can save programs and info....I just learned how to do the MP3 thing and have an album of music on their now.
Don't look for lighting fast speed on the net...but hey...it is the size of a pack of cards!
There are some Treo specific web sites out there...plus cnet rated the treo pretty high. It is pricey...but...
Depending on what carrier you use..the 650 is out for some carriers and has a better resolution....
Glad I am not in your shoes to have to make a decision!

I prefer the windows based ones these days, I felt palm fell behind and the apps look a little lack lustre *BUT* I have a treo 600 here that's going on ebay soon and I admit it's fast, small, works great as a phone and a pda.
If you like the 600 id say either pay the extra and get a 650 with all its extra features or find a cheap 600. Theyre definitely very capable devices.

Okay....now I need to know your ebay name so I can look for the 600....Mom needs one! and I don't know if I will be able to afford the 650 when the GSM version comes out!

well with the £-$, probably get a better bargain from a US auction :/ but I'll have a look and see what they're going for.

I have treo marked as a search on ebay now, but I think it's only Aussie vendors. There seem to be a few with 0 feedback - maybe I'm being paranoid but that seems like a bit of a risk for a device of this price! http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/confused.gif
You'll know it's me if you see me - my ebay name is the same as my UOG http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/smile.gif

yeah you DONT want to go with a 0 rated. I know everyone has to start somewhere ;-) but unless you can pick up for cash in a public location close to you, I just wouldnt go with a 0 for that much money

So agree with Keith! I have also noticed many people selling the treo 600 that haven't sold much...think they are getting rid of the 600's just as and before the 650's come out. If you buy a GSM unlocked treo won't it work in Australia?
I have noticed that there are some people on e-bay who are selling these that also have the warranties in place...something I would think about!

It should work ok - just cheaper for shipping to get one locally if I can.
I think I might try and be patient till the 650 comes out - am I right that the 600 is NOT Bluetooth capable but the 650 is?

That is right...the 650 is bluetooth...and I admit it..that is way technogeekier than I!
The reason for the 650 for me is the increased screen resolution. The nice thing is...I hand my older ones down to Mom...so she is the only 64 year old I know carrying the super technogeek phone/pda! So she gets the 600 when I get the 650!
