View Full Version : Nervous about our cruise...some questions

I have questions and possibly some of your replies will help ease my mind.

It all began when I went to get my hair cut over the weekend. The person who does my hair said he just got back from a cruise to the bahamas(carnival) I asked him how it was. He said his teenaged daughter was sea sick the entire time.

I over looked my sisters comment during the summer when she said her sister in law got sea sick on the cruise. Now I am really getting worried since I feel I have a sensitive stomach to a certain degree.
I get car sick easily and I am worried now. I also got sea sick when I was in high school however that was a yacht so much smaller that the disney cruise ship of course.

I have wrist bands and motion sickness pills that I will be taking with us on the cruise.

Perhaps something someone will say will help me not worry so much about getting sea sick....or worse my kids getting sick.

I worried myself to death about this too, Bambi. So did a relative of mine, who went on both cruises. Very sensitive to motion.

The first day we did the motion sickness pills thing, and had no problems. My relative took them for awhile longer than I did and then stopped too.

For the second cruise we didn't even bother (and it was a smaller ship and rougher waters).

We've had no problem what so ever. So, although I know some folks do get sea sick, I think that if you are equipped with motion sickness pills then you will be fine. Just be sure to take them well ahead of time, for the first time.

Good luck to you!

My wife and I have been on eight Disney Cruises and have never had a problem.

For our first one, she thought she would be sick since she has suffered from ear infections which tend to make her sensitive to motion. She was a bit uneasy on her feet for a few hours, but then she was fine. The ships are so big and stable that a person needs to be extremely weak on his/her feet to get to the point of getting sick.

Just go with a positive attitude, that you are going to enjoy it and you will. Mrs. SM now misses the motion when we get off the ship  .

Tink, thanks for reasuring me about all this. I just came across a great site and will be reading up on that. I must find out what is safe for the kids to take for motion sickness. Hopefully all will turn out alright.
My husband and I were seriously thinking of cancelling the trip but decided not to. I have other concerns that go deeper than the sea sickness but feel silly to say.

SM we are not mentioning to the girls ages 3 and almost 6yrs anything about the possibilities of getting sick. I don't want them putting it in their minds they will be getting sick.
Also love the picture of the ship....made me already stop thinking of my worries...looks amazing.

Bambi, please do not consider any concern silly. That's what we are here for, to help you learn what you need to know to make your vacations a success. We don't pretend to have all the answers, but we sure do have many of them.

Nothing that will interfere with your enjoyment is silly.

Our pediatrician suggested children dramamine for the kids in case we needed it but we didn't. My daughter gets sea sick on small boats and so do I but we are both ok on ships. On our last cruise (non disney) she felt a little unsteady but a nap took care of it.

Keep in mind that there is a medical office onboard and if anyone becomes really sick they have medicine to help you and the children

Thanks...I will pack the children's dramamine just to be safe. I am very sensitive also on the small boats also

We also have some wristbands to wear if we need it. Do you know how well they work?

I have never used the wrist bands so I don't know how well they work

My wife & my 2 children have been on the wonder & the Magic & they have been the most non sea sick cruises ever. We have been on several other cruise lines & they have made my wife feel a little woozy. there are several factors to realise the difference.

1 where the cruise is coming from & going to
2 what time of year
3 size of ship & equipment on board
4 age of ship

These all play a factor in how high or low the "WOOZIE FACTOR" could be.
older ships have less technical stabilizers. the Disney ships actually have a wing that comes out of the sides under the water to keep the ship on a level even keel. old ships rocked & roll so if you are partially susceptible it would feel very uncomfortable. The time of year is a huge factor due to hurricane season. We cruised on Celebrity Zenith in 1999 and went through hurricane bonnie with 120 mph winds & 70 ft waves, we were on the top deck in a suite & water was coming out of our drains the wrong way!!! that was a huge number on the WOOZIE FACTOR! To go to Bermuda from NY you go past the scholes off the coast of Maryland & Virginia, very rough water!! Disney route is from central Florida to the Caribbean smooth bath water!!!(unless in a hurricane season)

I hope these facts from our cruise experiences can help some, The Disney ships are the smoothest, best staffed, best laid out, best food ships we have been on!!!
