I will be going this July with my newborn and 2 and a half year old (our 4th trip). We do not plan on buying a double stroller, we'll just be carrying the baby in a sling. Has anyone worn their baby at DW during the summer? I'm concerned it may be too hot for everyone involved (the baby and the person wearing).

Also, if you have used a sling at DW, and recommendations? My plan right now is to use my Hotsling and silk Zolo. Hotsling for outside and Zolo for inside. I am also going to be washing the Hotsling in a UV sun protectant.

Any other general tips or personal stories are welcome. I have never seen anyone babywear at DW before, but it can't be that uncommon?

Thanks!

I've seen it being done, and the person carrying the child in that manner, looks pretty exhausted, usually. :)

I think a sling is a great option, especially for the child who is nursing. But in July it is going to be wicked hot and humid. Both baby and the carrier are going to be soaked with persperation.

Have the sling as a backup, but do have a stroller or carriage for the child too.

I have to agree with Tink. That time of the year is almost unbearable for a person without a carrying a baby let alone with. It is HOT and HUMID

I loved using my baby- sling with my kids......but having visited WDW in June, I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be for baby and carrier in July........

I agree with the heat, humidity and discomfort of carrying even a purse at WDW at that time of year!

Depending on the number of days you plan in the parks, perhaps you could rent a double stroller each day (about $15 per day, save your receipt and use it in other WDW parks the same day) or, for a longer stay, purchase an inexpensive double stroller after you arrive in Orlando. The sling would probably be fine for carrying the infant into the parks and short periods, but both infant and parent would be miserable after a couple of hours.

However, I don't think the double strollers for rent in the parks would be good for a newborn they aren't comfortable and don't seem safe for a baby that tiny.
I would agree to buy an inexpensive one ( is there an inexpensive double stroller?)
Also, another option is if there are two adults would you take an umberella stroller for the 2 yr old and another stroller (comfortable one for the newborn)
We have taken 2 strollers for our last 3 trips and managed very well. Just so there are 2 adults to push the strollers.

I think a stroller would be best...

I had a sling and it was a godsend. My DD was mobile at the time, unless she was in the sling (she walked very early.) We were there in June, and although I was hot, it was infinitely easier for me than chasing a baby around the crowded park. I'm the kind of person who doesn't care for the stroller, and get around faster with the sling. It was also great for nursing. When I got tired or hot, I'd just find a bench or shaded area and unstrap her. I had a simple cotton sling with webbing and quick release straps on it. I think it was made by graco.

I would be careful about putting the sun protectant spray on it, in case it rubs off on Baby.

In 2003, when the whole family went to WDW, Brianna was 2 months old. We had her in a Maya wrap sometimes, and even during November, it got hot carrying her that way. Even with 6 adults to help out, by the end of the day, our backs were hurting. We brought one stroller for Bria and her sister to share.

Go for the stroller, it will make your visit MUCH more comfortable. Bring the carrier for when you ride certain rides (Pooh's Hunny Pots, Jungle Cruise etc). That makes it easier for you.

The sling would be perfect but maybe it's a good idea to bring a small umbrella with you which you can use as a parasol. But how many days are you visiting WDW? It's not good for a new born to be in a sling for to many days in a row. Maybe you can use the sling one day and use the double stroller the next day.

i can fully recommend the wal mart on the 192 for baby items
we bought 2 travel cots (pack and play ) from there it would have cost us $50 a week to hire them in our villa but we bought them for only $43 each as we were in the villa for 3 weeks we saved a fair bit
even better when we tell you that the villa management company bought them off us at the end of our vacation for the price we paid for them as they were short of them . (don't know why they could not go to wal mart to buy them )

I have used a NoJo sling and love it!! I did have a double stroller and occasionally used it but the baby seemed so much happier to be held close to me in such an overwhelming environment.

Yes you are going to be hot, but you're going to be hot pushing a stroller too.

I would suggest that you might try using the sling to keep cool...use a spray fan thingy and take it easy.
