View Full Version : Play Area for Fantasy Land ????

Well as you know we just got back and it was a bit of a shame that most of fantasyland was behind green hordings ( as was the castle forecourt) - the biggest of the renovations was the previous site of the 20,000 leagues ride - this had heavy machinery working around the clock behind the hordings. I asked a CM and he said he had been told it was being turned into a large play area and they were desparate to get it up and running before the big celebrations later in the year.
Mixed blessing - will be good for the kids - but a large site just begging for a ride will be gone

cant see many parents wanting to hang around while the kids have a play, unless so they can rest up for a bit, should have put a ride in me thinks :D

That would be one huge play area!
It would be nice if they would do a themed something that's toddler friendly (read: where they can move about freely with parental supervision) but interesting enough for the accompanying adults. I tend to feel sorry for the little ones stuffed in strollers most of the day because it's faster to move through the parks!
Unless they incorporate some "kiddie" rides, it would be hard to utilize that entire space as a play area, though!

UKWDWNUT - I agree Rides
WOW a Play area .....OOOOPPPSSS a Large Play Area....After this bit of Disney Stupidity. I think they need to fire the Imagineers for even suggesting this dumb idea.
Don't worry Tajainiz....Disney will use the space that's left by saying its stroller parking or open range space and maybe put a character Statue there.
What happen to Disney Imagineering....I remember when that's all I wanted to do is work for them....Now I don't know....is this the best they can do....Maybe we should put another Dumbo type ride in (like Aladdin, Asto O., or Triceritops S.) Maybe we can ***New News out recently*** take the COP out and replace it with "Little Green Men Bumper Cars" (Toy Story characters). What happen to POTC or HM or SM or SPLM type thinking. Thats all they are doing is shopping out of a Carnival ride book and saying what can we do to make this "Disneyish" Look at Primevil Whirl....A carnival out by me has a smaller version of it.
The large play area is just simply a city park in a Disney Tone.
Sad Sad Sad

I remember when they used to have an old playground in Fantasy land like 12 years ago? I remember it had a lot of fun slides. My mom used to take me while my dad and sister would be off on Space Mountain.
I also remember falling and bitting my lip, ever since then my lip has had this weird scar bump on it. :)
Ahhh disney injuries are so magical! :D

I do believe a play area is a good idea. Some place where the kiddies can run around, have fun and get out of the strollers, without adults practically walking over them... but there is sooo much space there, I am sure they could have a ride, shop, food court and play area....

When we took the DGD's to AK last year, we let them play in the BONEYARD....it was so much fun to watch them run around and burn off energy! I think it's a great idea for the little kids who don't want to ride or can't ride rides.

He looks as though he would have been happy to spend most of his holiday right there!
At least, if mom, dad and sis were right there with him! :)

NOOOOOOOO!!!! Not a play area. I hate when I am at WDW to spend any time at basically, a glorified park. My girls love the Boneyard but I tell you it takes every ounce of patience I have to sit there for 45 minutes while they run & play. I'd rather be heading to a ride! If this is some toddler thing, they will be to big anyway at 6 & 11 & that is always sad when they see something fun & can't do it. Hey, it would get me out of having to sit for 45 minutes though!

You know what would be great,if they make that area like the Curious George area in Universal Studios. My kids just love that area of Universal and I have to fight with them to leave.Something like that for kids to cool off would be great. :D

Would be really great if they made it like the Dr Seuss playground at IOA - we really loved that

i think that the thing that is apearing here is that the folks with little kids think it is a good idea those with out dont like the idea.
one comment i made to mandy when we were in the play area in mickey land
the kids there were having a fantastic time , and there were lots of them even though the photos make it look empty it took ages to get the shots , and the cost to disney compared to even a dumbo type ride is very minimal so it is obvious why they chose that route, plus of course it is in an area of the park aimed mainly at the little ones.

JacksDad where did you here that - could be good if done properly.
Lets face it it needed something doing to it as it was a 'dead area and it must have cost them to maintain the water.
Yes its a 'cheap option' but a play area would still be better than another Stitch fiasco.

Screamscape describes it as a simple playground with more maybe being done there at a later date
They have mentioned something about a little green soldiers bumper car ride going in carousel of progress too. I hope so! :D

Screamscape is one of the places where I read the rumor..
2006 - 20K Lagoon Site - (11/26/04) Construction is moving along quickly behind the construction wall it seems, though so far it looks like they have only set up new pathways and nothing major set up for a new attraction. As before, all the rumors are pointing to a simple Pooh themed play area at this point and anything bigger will be a project for later. Otherwise, it looks like any hint of the former lagoon is now gone.
(10/29/04) While Disney hasn’t said anything about what they will do with the former 20K Lagoon, the one rumor that keeps popping up over and over is that they may add some kind of Pooh themed play area and possibly a new pathway into the Toontown Fair area.
(9/13/04) A reader sent in these three new photos of the 20K Lagoon demolition project.
(8/16/04) There are many theories about what will be placed on the old 20K Lagoon site, but unfortunately most of them are not very exciting, which may be why so little information about the project has leaked out yet. One theory claims some of the space will be used to create a Disney Princess themed play area with meet and greets, gifts and more, though some kind of attraction could be added as a second phase. The section of the lagoon closest to Pooh may become a 100 Acre Wood themed land.

I remember the old playground they had in there, when I was younger I was there all the time too, I said in an earlier reply to this post. :)
Then when I was 8 when we went back, it was all closed off for that playground was just being built. :)

Well I can confirm that the work being done there is frantic - not often you see and hear diggers going all day behind the green hordings and there were a LOAD of workmen in there
