View Full Version : Magic Your Way Good/Bad/or just different?

I have been so surprised not to see any posts about the new tickets
Has there been a discussion that I missed?
What does everyone think of this new idea?
Does anyone have any first hand experience with the new system?
Did it seem to cost more or less to get what you want?
At first I didn't like it at all, but when I priced it all out, if you compare a non expiring Park Hopper to a non-expiring Magic Your Way hopper it is not drastically more (around 12 dollars I think...similar to a price increase that could have happened in any given year) Has anyone else compared?
What is the new cost if you want to go to a water park or DQ and not the main parks?
This excerpt is from the FAQ sheet (link is at the end of Joanne's sticky about the new tickets)...
Can I use one of the extra “days” on my Magic Your Way Base Ticket to visit another park, as an alternative to “park hopping”?
No, guests who purchase the Magic Your Way Base Ticket will not be able to use additional base days to visit multiple theme parks on the same day. Only one theme park visit can be used per day.
I don't get this  Why wouldn't they want you to use your ticket up?
I'm wondering...what if you chose a base ticket and went to one park a day but maybe do to rain, or health or some change of plans, you don't end up going into a park one day, so you now have an 'extra' day to use up before it expires...but with this rule you can't go to (let's say) MK on your last day and then blow the last ticket admission that night going to MGM or Epcot for dinner and fireworks. I don't like that.
And... if people don't purchase the 'hopper add on', then it would seem like the parks that are open late will be a lot emptier b/c all the people who spent the day at AK, TL and BB won't be able to go to a park that night.
Any thoughts?
Please post any thoughts you have had about how you think the new tkts are either positive or negative.

I won't be buying one because AP's are just more cost effective for us. However, I was looking at buying tickets for my dad and sister. A 7 day ticket with no hopping and it expires is only $199. Not a bad deal.
I don't like the fact that you have to add on to buy hopping and no expiration date though.

I'm with Johnie - as a Florida Resident, an AP is by far the way to go for me

I love it for Guests who want to go for a week. it's slashed their ticket prices close to half price. I also LOVE the new dining plan, which you can add on. It's very worth it, depending on what your plans are, and the age of your children.

I havent used it yet,but when I book my trip I plan on buying the 10 day hopper with no expiration for 2 adults and 2 kids(approximately $1250).We will probably use 5 of the days and save the other 5 for a future trip.that comes out to 625 dollars for four 5 day park hoppers no exp.

Part of the Magic Your Way packages is a dining plan that you can add on to your package

I love the idea of the dining plan. One sit down and one counter service meal per person per day. Plus an ice cream (or popcorn, or pop)
We usually don't eat more than that anyway. It sounds like a great deal.

Mm, it seems the longer you stay the cheaper it is.
The only problem we had was on Jan. 2nd when my mom tried to book the trip (the day it started) and she couldn't because it would not allow her to because the system was down.
Great way to start the new system. haha

Saw an ad in the paper that Disney is offering really good package! 7 nights at a Value resort, 7 day tickets and other Magic for a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 junior, and 1 child) all for $1500. Well, starting at $1500. That's cheap!

That's for the value resorts, Bev. I tried to access it on the official Disney website when I first saw the television commercial, but it ran me around in circles. *dizzy* The one nice thing about being sick is I actually watch television. Between naps! :D
It is a pretty decent offer. I'm so far out from my next WDW trip that I'm trying not to look too hard! :)

I just got a Florida Resident e-mail on a new ticket available for us
This is exciting news for Florida Residents!
Now you can purchase a special Florida Resident ticket called Disney's 3-Day Play Pass. Here's how it works. For $119 plus tax, you get 3 days of fun for the price of 2* (the same price a non-Florida Resident pays for the 2-Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket).
You can enjoy one Theme Park per day, and you have 6 months from the first time you use your pass to enjoy them. Disney's 3-Day Play Pass is available for purchase all year long with no block-out dates. That's it. This way you can relax and enjoy the magic at your own pace for less than $40 a day!
To me, the old Play4 passes were a better deal  only difference is these are always available with no black-outs

The no black out dates could be handy for when inconsiderate guests decide to visit during peak season!

Yup, value resorts, and it's good for the regular season. Like I said, I need to find a junior.... I already have the child...well, will have when Caitie turns 3 next month.

Butterhead - if you're purchasing additional days in anticipation of a future visit, remember to purchase the 'non-expiration' option or those days will be forfeit 14 dyas from first use.

Reading it again - they're not even hoppers anymore.... I'll stick to my AP thank-you-very-much

You have to pay for the park hopper option. I don't like that. We tend to hop quite a bit......

I honestly find these new tickets a bit more complicated.
The last two times we have visited, we did so with anultimate park hopper ticket. I loved these tickets!... they were valid from the day you arrived until the day you left. You could go to any park or parks on any given day, plus you had the option of visiting a waterpark or Pleasure Island, or doing a round of minigolf
It was not complicated at all, and I knew I could basically go anywhere without having to pay extra, and with no restrictions
With these new tickets, there are so many options and add ons that I just find them confusing....

I don't know if you can add that onto that special resident ticket though Johnie.

No kidding.... especially when you consider that a Florida Resident Seasonal Annual pass is $189 plus tax

Mari, they still have an 'Ultimate Park Hopper' in some form, but now you can tailor it to how many days you need, which is nice.

Butterhead I just looked at the price of 4day Park Hoppers being sold on Maple Leaf and 4tkts/4days would be $876! So if you get 5 days for $625 you are doing well!! :D
Mac do you know what 2adult and 2kid Park Hopper tkts would have cost before the change took place?
Also Mac if I could pick your TA brain, what about this part...

Why???
I've sort of decided that if you are willing to sacrifice spontaneity for a lesser price ticket it is worth it. But if you don't plan every minute and stick to your plan, the new tickets could diminish your vacation (unless, of course, you buy all the add ons, and then you can have what the old tickets offered)

Where are you getting a seasonal for $189?

That's the Florida resident's pass with the black out dates. About 180 days are blacked out last I knew.

Disney has it for $209.

That's what I'm thinking. She already has hers and....doh!
It's cheaper to renew an old pass than to start a fresh one.
Rats.
OKWTink

It's only cheaper to renew if you are going to get value from those days. For me, it is nearly always cheaper to renew. But if my AP or Seasonal AP ran out in month A and I didn't intend to return until three or more months later, I'd probably not renew, but purchase new. Ever since they changed the way the days are counted, I've paid much closer attention to renewal features.
Maybe the $189 is the renewal price? I don't know because I use the AP. (And honestly can't tell you what that is right now. ).
I've never been interested in the Seasonal AP because when I want to go to WDW I want to go to WDW and not be worried about black out dates!

I paid $189 a year ago when I bought it. i'm due to renew next month so I don't know what the renewal price is. If I'm remembering correctly, it was $211 or so with tax

oh!! Thanks for letting me know :D
Still, I think next time we will buy the annual pass.... because it gives us an extra reason to go back within a year
