LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Irish hospitality and a bit of blarney will be coming to Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort in the form of an authentic Irish pub and restaurant. Scheduled to open in summer 2005, the pub (yet to be named) will feature the very best of Irish food, flair, heritage and entertainment.
The Irish culture is known for its warmth, character and hospitality, and the new Downtown Disney pub promises to deliver an experience immersed in genuine Irish atmosphere -- from food and drink to music and entertainment.
The pub will be warm and welcoming with one-of-a-kind fixtures and furnishings -- all designed and built in Ireland by Irish craftspeople. Additional decor items include Irish antiques and bric-a-brac.
Traditional and contemporary Irish music, storytelling and dance will help create a lively social ambience and the friendly pub staff will bring Emerald Isle charm to Downtown Disney.
The restaurant's gastronomic delights will be the work of Chef Kevin Dundon, one of Ireland's best-known chefs. He will introduce a menu that blends traditional Irish fare and fresh ingredients, all with a modern flair. Chef Dundon's credits include cooking for celebrities and heads of state, overseeing deluxe international hotel cuisine, opening a premiere hotel and restaurant, and appearing in his own television series.
"We are thrilled to introduce an authentic Irish pub to Downtown Disney," said Ed Baklor, vice president of Downtown Disney. "The superior level of quality, energy and appeal that this new venue brings is a perfect complement to Downtown Disney's lineup of world-class retail, dining and entertainment."
The pub will be owned and operated by Great Irish Pubs Florida, Inc., the Irish-owned company that previously created "Nine Fine Irishmen" at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
"We are working extremely hard here in Ireland preparing to deliver what we believe will be the very best expression of Irish hospitality ever seen in the U.S.," said Paul Nolan, one of the establishment's co-owners. "We are extremely proud and excited to have the opportunity to bring a real slice of Ireland to Downtown Disney."
The Irish pub will occupy the building that formerly housed The Jazz Company. Pleasure Island club admission will not be required for entrance to the pub.

How funny! As I began reading Johnie's post, I wondered if it would be similar to the Nine Fine Irishman pub at NYNY in Las Vegas. It's owned by the same company!
The concept sound very similar, but I'm sure they'll make some changes. :)

Well Superquinn is a big chain of stores in Ireland where you can get your all your weekly food shopping. I cant really think of anything in the US that would be a good comparison, maybe something like K-Mart ??? but aswell as doing all the usual brand names they do a lot of their own stuff and I cant stress enough how good these sausages are :)
OKWTink
January 26th, 2005, 14:28

Actually, if you think about it, the Vikings invaded Ireland (where didn't they invade? ) and as a matter of reality, brought their genetics to the people there.
Soooo, someone from Norway or other Scandinavian countries could legitimately trace their heritage to Ireland.
'Course why anyone would be interested in a Norseman when the Irish are around is beyond me! LOL! OK!OK! No PMs! I'm kidding!!!!!

OKWTink

'Course then there is the voyage of St. Brendon. :D :D :D

There's evidence to suggest that Columbus was beaten by several hundred years by those Viking types. Don't think they got their longboats across to Arkansas though. Think they probably made land around Maine - decided it was just as cold there as it was in Norway - and turned round and went home again as there was nothing to pillage.

Everywhere you go in the US, you meet tons of Irish-Americans. They built America. They all seem and look like distant relatives of mine, to me. They are easier for me to "read" and understand than other folks, and seem a bit like family. Irish girls are very beautiful, but you feel a certain distance... it would be like marrying a cousin. Irish music is so stirring, that it can bring tears to your eyes....the instruments seem to sing to you, as if in words.
No doubt the Celtic strain must be strong in me, although it is more Scots.....
I know better than to dissemble too much on the topic, as the Irishmen can run circles around my meager "gift of the gab". I better rush off to Ireland to kiss the Blarney Stone again.

U2 have a great son "The Hands That Built America" (I think it's from the film 'Gangs of New York'). It sends shivers up my spine whenever I hear it.
