Hi

I would like to buy a couple of DVD films and my boys have a couple of playstation 2 games they have their eyes on. If I buy these during my holiday will they be cheaper and more importantly will they work in our machines when we get back?

Playstation games won't work and DVD's will only work if you have a multi-region player.

Yes, you have to have a multi-region DVD player or look on the internet for a code to unlock your player to chnge it to multi-region. I was unable to do this unfortunately as I have a Panasonic DVD and there are no codes available for them.
Not sure about the Playstation games though, but I suspect they are the same. My son saw some Gamecube and Gameboy games he wanted last time, but I was'nt willing to chance it.

playstation wise.. there are hacks to get US games to work and modification chips etc but to be honest, WQ is right, too much hassle.

You can of course get a multi region disc for the Playstation2 that'll let you watch US dvds with no problem. Sometimes thats an easier way than getting an unlock code for a dvd player.

We made ours and my mums DVD multi regional by inputting a short code via the remote. If you want to know the website (its all free and legal) then pm me and I will give you the details.

Tabitha, I think I'm correct in saying Gameboy SP games work here. I'm sure Paula bought some.

Half life 2 is the bain of my life....... as is football manager.....

With the ps2 games, it's better not to risk it. You can get your ps2 chipped, but it's illegal, and can seriously mess up the console. On the other hand, you can buy a disk that you put in the PS2 and it makes it multi regional. Although looking at some of the PS2 games prices, your not saving that much by buying them in the states,
