Hi,

Going on our first trip to WDW in April. I am fairly certain that my DD (and if DD does then DS will too) will want to collect Pins when she sees them.

Can anybody shed some light on pin buying/trading?

How much are they?
Where do you buy them from?
Any other info that you think I will need on pins..

I read somewhere about trading them with the CMs, this is what made me realise that I knew nothing about this, I thought that you just bought them in the shops.

Thanks
Trish

You can pick up a starter kit in any resort shop, at Pin Central in DTD and loads of other places. The kit includes a Lanyard and 3/4 pins to get you started.
If you approach a CM to trade, they always will. If you approach a pin collector (wearing pins on lanyard) they don't have to trade if you have nothing they like.
Starting price for pins is $6.50.

I have found that there are so many pins...I had to kind of pick a subject. I chose cats and tea...my brother chose grumpy and piglet....mom collects and doesn't trade at all :)

Our last trip we kept trying to find the smallest pins we could. We have a Jiminy the size of a baby fingernail...very cute!

The best part is meeting new people and having them ask about your pins!

I think I will be a collector too, dont think I will be able to part with any, they sound way too cute.

I can see this being a fun part of the holiday.

The starter kits have 2 each of 2 pins. One to keep and one to trade :)

CMs who are wearing green laynards will only trade with kids

On our last visit we were given 2 lanyards with 2 pins on at check-in. Lanyards not as good as the ones you buy. On the 2 trips prior to this we got pins given at check-in, a bit of a taster I suppose. If you get the chance to get to the outlets at Beltz or premium there is a disney outlet at these and you can purchase some pins for $3-4, which you can use to trade, saves a few dollars.

Don't know if this would help or maybe you know it already. Disneydirect.com have free shipping and semi annual pin sale till Feb.27. Not a bad starter pins to trade. That's what I did with my nephew I bouhgt him all the sale ones and the stuff he did not like are the one he used for trading.
