My kids get 2 weeks off for Easter, and I was wondering if I'd be crazy to go to Orlando at that time. Would it be busy for the 2 weeks, or just Easter weekend? What would the crowds be like? Do the hotels charge more during this time?

as with any hotels they always charge more at peak times.

I have been at easter and yes it was busy but if you follow the tips found on this site there is no reason why you can't have a great time.

No, you'd not be crazy at all! Some resorts will offer specials, because they want to be sure to have a sell out house. An empty bed is no income, eh?

It's not nearly as bad as you might think. Nothing compares to the chaos of Christmas week. Easter is busy, but not like that!

So, which Easter are you thinking of then? :D

Next year. But I'm not saying anything to DH. I wanted to go for his 40th (next year) but then used the money I'd saved to surprise him with the Georgia trip this year  (I couldn't go without him). I told him it's an early 40th gift, but I'd love to have the money to spring WDW on him and the kids next year!

Another question - if I book a resort hotel, e.g. All Stars at a certain rate and subsequently come across a discount code on this site, can I request the cheaper rate?

OKWTink
February 17th, 2005, 13:26
Yes. I believe that is the way it is done. Book the rooms at the resort you want, for the days you want and then watch like a hawk for the codes.

Oh that's great - thanks.

I was there last easter and we had the greatest time in DW. It did get crowded but we just hit the parks as soon as they opened and took advantage of FP. Just make sure if you want to eat somewhere make a ps ecspecially for character meals.
Our hotel had had a cute offer where you could order an easter basket for the kids and the easter bunny would deliver it to the hotel room.(wasn't cheap) Also there are easter brunches available easter Sunday. We were unable to take advantage of the easter baskets or brunches since we had CRT that morning. I wouldn't hesitate to go back during easter break. Again, it was one of our best disney trips.

Oh and yes if you book a resort stay and a discount comes available you can appy it and get the cheaper rate. I am almost 100% sure about this, hopefully someone will confirm.

Thanks for that Bambi. Were the parks busy the entire time or just the few days of Easter - Thurs-Sun?

Bambi

Geez, trying to recall I believe it was crowded the entire time. I do know easter sunday we left and headed back to the resort by lunch time since the crowds were getting rough. I just remember as we were leaving tons of people were just entering MK. We got so much done since that morning MK opened at 7am(EMH) and left by 1pm for the hotel then headed to epcot for dinner later.

How long would you be staying at disney? We were there for almost 2 weeks so we were able to do everything we wanted. If your only going to be there 4 days it may be hard to see/do all you intend with the crowds.

Hope this information was helpful:blush:

Great then I wouldn't worry about the crowds too much then. Again, just try and get to the parks early and make whatever dining ps you really want well in advance. Trust me on this because we extended our trip last year and couldn't get ps for the restaraunts we wanted on our extra 3 days. I don't know if your like me but we LOVE getting up super early. (only in disney world of course) 7am the park was empty and the girls rode the teacups with the rabbit and dd rode barnstormer with Max. At a certain point we took it easy and slept in on some days-after all its a vacation.
Oh I am so excited for you~

Remember that many schools (at least in Florida) have their Spring Breaks around Easter time so that's one reason why you'll see higher crowds

One great memory I have is of being woken at 5.30am on our first morning to the sounds of DD who was 6 singing "never look on the dark side of life" (what she meant was 'always look on the bright side of life').

Don't get too excited for me yet - the trip may not happen. It will all depend on how much I can secretly save without letting DH know!

I will be keeping my fingers crossed :fingers: that you make a good savings. (and great rates will come available for you)

I'm going to WDW this March! I'm teacher and have no choice in the matter! It's busy time or nothing! I agree with what everyone else has said. If you make sure you get there early, use the fastpasses well you'll have a great time. If you are worried about the kids getting fed up in long lines etc, it may be worth investing in a Pal Mickey. I won't go into detail now but there is plenty of info on this site about them. Have a great time!

Does Pal Mickey tell us where the shortest lines are?

adam_goodger
February 20th, 2005, 11:30
From what i have heard Pal Mickey will cherp up every now again to tell you if there is a short queue for a ride. I've not got one yet, getting mine when i go but from the stuff i've read he will not only give you tips for when to start queueing for parades, he'll also tell you about short lines, interesting things about the park, comment on rides and even play games with you while you queueing.

JuniorMickey. It is also the same time as UK holidays this year so it will all clash! ARRRGGGHHH! SHould be ok though.

Has anyone else read the Unofficial guide to Walt Disney World 2005 by Bob Sehlinger?

They have got this new system that goes along with the park planner and it tells you, on a scale from 1-10 when the park is busy. In it it says that during the Easter period the parks will only be 4 out of 10! I hope that no onw has booked their holiday on that advice because I know for a fact is won't be that quite!

I know what you mean, the holidays are great, but you always have to travel at the busiest time, ah well :D

And Tricia, teaching does strange things to the more sane of people

We spent last Easter at WDW @ POFQ. I was just looking at the video for our trip yesterday. I miss it so much. My DW, DD, brother, sister in law and their 2 boys make the trip (boys were 5 and 2). We had a great time. It was a bit crowded. The only real problems were with bus transportation from Epcot back to POFQ one night and..oh yeah, the Easter Mass was for about 2000 - 3000 people at the contemporary. Long lines out on the monorail. It is a bit crowded, but it is a lovely time to be there. Lots of flowers blooming and they had nice Easter events for the kids. Arts and crafts and an egg hunt on the grounds. My DD was 13 then but she lived the event vicariously through her nephews. We had a great lenten meal at Olivia's at OKW. Anyway enjoy your stay. We are in the planning stages for a January 2006 visit~~!!!!!!!

DH's birthday falls just before Easter next year, so it would be great to be there at around that time - I'm just so 'iffy' about the crowds. The kids usually get holidays from school on Wed. before Easter, so they have Holy Thurs, Good Fri and all the following week off. I'm thinking that if I go for that time, plus the following week, maybe the crowds wouldn't be so bad the week after Easter? What do y'all think? (That would be the last 2 weeks of April, 2006).

The further away you move from the actual holiday, the lower the attendance, usually, Goofy Girl. You should be ok. I think it sounds like a wonderful gift for your DH and it is a nice time to go.

Hi ,i'm going on Friday 19th (4 days to go ) and having search around the web have discovered it's Spring Break for most schools over the Easter holidays. Will this make it any busier ? The thought of the crowds makes me nervous...we went 2 years ago at the beginning of March and it was FAB.. no queue's..

We are going on the 20th and expecting crowds, we will just have to plan around them by going early in the morning then going back to the hotel in the afternoon (when I presume it will get really packed) and going back in the evening -at least that way we may still have to contend with the crowds but not with the heat also. We will not be going to any parks on Easter Day!
