Hi everyone, just found your website and it's really good. We're going to WDW in March and we'd like to use our mobiles instead of walkie-talkies whilst there.

We both have tri-band unlocked phones and to avoid paying ridiculous call charges, I'd like to hire US network SIM cards.

The phone shops in Swindon told me that they don't hire out US SIM cards any longer, but that it is possible to rent SIM cards on arrival at Orlando Airport. Does anyone have experience of this, know what they will cost and have any recommendations about which network to use?

Most US phones do not have SIM cards. I had never heard of them until a post here. I do know that Nextel does use them though.

Oh, and :welcome: to the UOG!

Hi Cheshirecat, I am not long back from Orlando and I had similar concerns as you before I went. What I decided to do was to take my own mobile phone with me and stay in touch with home via text messages. I also bought a ten dollor phone card in case I needed to actually speak with somebody at home, this worked well and was a very cheap way to stay in touch. I know this would not suit everybody as peoples circumstances vary, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Something worth noting if you do decide to go that route is that a text message from the US can only be something like 100 or 120 characters long, unlike Ireland and England where we have up to 160 characters per text (including spaces), and so you cannot send multiple texts in one message either, just one at a time. If your composed text message is too long then it simply won't send and it does not tell you why, I thought I had a network problem for 2 days before I discovered this by accident. The network I roamed on to in Florida was AT&T. This was my experience anyway.
