The prices are very low for september. Assuming I pull the kids out of school for a week, what the catch? With a family of four the savings is substantial.
Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the Boards!!!
Glad you made it into our little piece of Disney.
Mmm, is your question why were you able to find such good prices for that time of year? Well, I would like to know also  .
To answer your question, September and part of October are considered low season for cruising in the US since kids are back in school and do not get another break until Thanksgiving. One of our travel consultants should be able to give you more details about the pricing by seasons.
If you are able to get good prices, go for it! How old are your kids? I'm sure they will have a blast.
I have photos of our Disney Cruises in my signature and you'll be able to find some Trip Reports here (http://www.wdisneyw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34934).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that hurricane season?

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with August 15 to October 15 considered to be Peak Hurricane Activity.
Yes that is a chance  , but that is 6 months, half a year, that's a long time for somebody to decide not to do anything in the remote chance a hurricane does form and passes by the area. People who live along "tornado alley" are prepared and many have storm cellars, but do not live underground throughout the tornado period  .
The big picture is that last year's 4 hurricanes were a freak of nature  . That had never happened before since records have been kept. Yes, we are at the peak of a worldwide cycle in weather activity, but no matter where you are, natural phenomena could occur close to anyone.
I say plan, and if something were to form too close for comfort, change your plans  ...

They are at the perfect age to be able to enjoy all DCL has to offer for kids  . As in the commercial, they'll probably have so much fun that they will forget about you :rotfl: .
Hope you guys get to go!

My wife and I went the week of Labor Day last year (September 4-11). We has excellent weather, but Hurricane Ivan was 2 days behind us. Many cruise ships that normally went to the Bahamas (which was being beaten up by the hurricane) went to Grand Cayman instead, where there was no effect from Ivan yet. So do not fear your cruise plans. Your ships will steer wide of bad weather, but you may have to change ports of call.
The people who cruised the week after us could not visit the same ports we did, and the cruise lines went out anyway, to different ports, and offered cruisers their choice of:
1. 100% refund and do not cruise.
2. Re-schedule a later cruise with a $200 discount.
3. Go on the cruise with the changed ports of call and receive a 50% refund.
I would have taken option 3 because the ports were not that important to me.

thats great news Jimfortk, thanks for the info. I need to firm up w/ my wife, but even if we work in a week at the parks this summer, I think a September cruise sounds great. I would love to go this summer, but the cost is so high for a family of four.
Thanks!
