:bedbounce :joke: :cartwheelYesterday, I received a *unexpected* windfall of €2,600. :excited: :cheeky: :nutty: :woohoo:I simply cannot believe it!!!!!! As most of you know, I had been hoping to save enough to surprise DH with a trip to Orlando to honour his 40th birthday next April. The money I got yesterday is enough for flights, 2 week accommodation & car hire for DH, DD8, DS6 and myself. :mexwave: :tigbounce :nutty: :stretch: :bedbounce

Or should I be grown up, and pay some bills, do up the house, save for a rainy day... :lmao: :laughoff:Yeah, right!!!!!:lmao:

My biggest problem now (after deciding when to go) will be keeping it a secret from DH. I'm going to wait until the kids return to school in Sept., when they get their list of vacation time from the school, before deciding when to go.

BTW - you're the only people I can share my secret with - I can't tell anyone else in case it's revealed to DH! So excuse me while I :bedbounce :cartwheel :stretch: :mexwave: :spin: :woohoo: :nutty: :tigbounce  :jump: :excited: :bounce:

So how do you keep a £2600 windfall a secret?

So how do you keep a £2600 windfall a secret?
:sshhh:With a great deal of difficulty!!!:zip: I lodged the cheque immediately into a new account, wrote a letter to DH explaining where the money came from and what I'm using it for. I also said that if anything happens to me, I want him to use the money to take the kids to WDW. I put the letter into the bank book. It's all very 'secret service'! :hide:

Congratulations, GG!

Keeping the whole thing a surprise will be tricky. You'll need to coordinate your children's schedules with your DH's vacation time. Of course, you could use a red herring to lead him in another direction for vacation time. Where would he like to go (besides WDW) that he would take two weeks off work?

You're going to have fun with this! :)

Wow! That's some surprise! I do hope it works out for you, keeping the secret and all. That's a great treat for a fortieth birthday!

You've got quite a bit of work ahead of you; making all those plans and keeping it a secret from your family!

Good luck! :luck:

Thanks guys. This morning I've been seriously contemplating Feb 06. We were there at that time of year with the kids before, and it was ideal. I have no problem taking the kids out of school for the duration, as it's not something I normally do. If it won't be Feb., it will have to be Nov. or Dec. and I don't think I can wait that long!!!!

How exciting!!! You are quite sneaky  a character trait i admire  opening up a new account and putting a note of explanation in there -- excellent idea!! I wish you the best on keeping your secret! I don't think I could do it  I say go in February - the sooner the better! So hey where did this windfall come from anyway?

Very exciting news - congratulations

LOL I know exactly how you feel about the "do I pay the bills or go to Disney" dilemma. This is the very reason we are going, although the money came to us rather sadly when DH's mum died last Aug. Eventually he convinced himself by telling me that his mum would rather have us spend the money on something the whole family could enjoy than just paying bills. Personally I'm not sure that is what she would have said - more like "how on earth did you get credit card bills so BIG?", but he feels better about the whole thing so we're off.

Good luck with the keeping it secret thing.

FANTASTIC NEWS!!!

What month is your DH birthday? Can you be there for the big day or is that not possible.

I went to the bank to clear a loan :sigh: and the clerk said to me, 'just a moment, I have some forms for you to sign'. It turns out that I had overpaid for an 'insurance for loan protection against illness/redundancy' and she wanted me to sign to say she was repaying me!!:D I could NOT believe it, and nearly kissed the poor clerk! She was really happy for me too. The strange thing is, I prayed to DH's late mother about 2 weeks ago for some financial luck!!

It's too close to Easter next year - I don't want to be there during a crowded time. I'll still make him wear a birthday button though. And if I do manage to go in Feb, we'll be there for our wedding anniversary.

Wonderful news GG! It makes a nice change for a bank to be giving money back!
