But... are we taking enough money???

There is two of us going to Orlando in April. We're staying off site on International Drive. We're taking $2400 for 14 days, our park tickets are paid for and we're not hiring a car.

We plan on eating a big breakfast on International Drive and then heading to the Parks, either by the free shuttle bus or taxi and then having dinner when we get back (if we're not too exhausted) or alternatively eating at the Disney parks at night.

I'm really panicking that we're not taking enough -- it's our first holiday to America so we're not sure if we are going to be ok budgeting $170 a day for the two of us -- it sounds a lot to me, but will it be when we are actually there?

Thanks
Claire

Sounds fine to me Claire. I take $200 day for 4 of us and (2A + 2C) and it pays for all the food no problem. I recommend taking a credit card for emergencies though. All the menus on the main site have prices if you want to check though, the link is at the top of the page.

Thanks, that has reassured me. We'll be taking a credit card, but would rather not have to use it a lot -- nothing worse than having to pay a huge bill when you are back in dark damp England!

Have you got any recommendations of where to eat on I-Drive, do the buffet breakfasts start early enough to allow enough time to travel to the parks for when they open at 9AM?

A tip that a friend gave me was to put some money into your cc account before you go - then if you use it, you're not facing bills when you get back. I put €500 into it before our last trip - and still had €200 credit in it when we got back.

Thanks for the tip GoofyGirl. How does that work, can you draw money out of the account when you are in the US, or did you mean that you had put some money aside to pay off credit card bill?

Favourite places for good value breakfasts are Ponderosa and Sizzlers. All you can eat for $4. and they open at 7am. We used to go all the time but got a bit fed up with trying to walk round the parks stuffed. I now prefer a more continental breakfast and wait until lunch or dinner for a bigger meal. :eat:

Basically, I just go into the Bank and ask to lodge x amount into my Visa account - same as if I was going in to pay something off. That way, your account is in credit, so when you get your next bill, as well as showing all the money you've spent, it also shows that you don't owe any money - and hopefully you'll still be in credit. :)

I should say that I usually have a zero balance on my credit card account. The tip doesn't work if you already have €000's outstanding!!

I've cleared all my credit cards so I'm ready to go -- I didn't want anything hanging over my head to make me feel guilty about spending $$$ :D

I can't wait to sample the breakfasts at the Ponderosa and Sizzlers, I've heard really great things about them. yum yum. :hehe:

I do so much agree about eating a large beakfast, that stuffed feeling does slow you down for a bit early on in the day.

As for good places to eat on I Drive? I found most places were good but the few Aleck mentioned I would also recomend. There is so much competition with regard restaurants they can't afford to be bad.
