I could REALLY use some expert help here. I will be leaving on the 26th for WDW :wiggle: It will be me, hubby, and five children. We have never taken the kids before so naturally, we already have a list of all the things we want to buy. But mom needs some prices ahead of time as I am working on the budget :afraid:
I saw on Gifts of a Lifetime that lanyard and pins starter sets were $33 each....how much are they in the parks? We would also like pressed penny books, autograph books, and of course fat pens. Any ideas how much these things cost?
Oh and mouse ears!! I want some mouse ears too. Haven't had any since I was just a little girl. How much extra do they charge to put your name on them? Anyone know? I really want to get all of these things for all 5 kids, even though some are too young to appreciate them. Want them to have them when they are older in case we can never afford to go back
Thanks so much for any prices you can give me!

Well pressed pennies are a penny and 50 cents for the pressing privilege :)
Autograph book are about $5 and the pens are about $3.
The starter pin sets are about $25 and come with a lanyard and four pins (two each of two designs, one to keep and one to trade) individual pins start at $6.95 (recently went up from $6.50) and run up to about $11. You can buy a lanyard without a starter kit for about $10.
Oops! Forgot ears. I bought a set of children's in December for my 2-year-old niece (which she LOVES). The ears were $7 and to put her name on them was $5

:D about the pressed pennies being a penny.....i was hoping for a price on the books to hold them.... Hard to believe they charge 50 cents to press a penny :ohno: I'm assuming it's the same to press a quarter?
Thanks so much for your response....I just can't wait to get there!! :micbounce

It should be noted, however, that having a name put on ears is free at the hat shop next to Tony's Town Square. I believe there is also a shop at MGM that embroiders the names on free... Of course, this policy may have changed since I bought a pair in Dec.

Thanks so very much! This will be a great help for budgeting and will make it easier to set some boundaries with the kiddos ahead of time. I am SO glad I found this site. You guys are awesome :thanks:

I'm glad you found us! It's a shame you didn't find us earlier... Then I would have told you to buy banks for the kids and have them save their quarters and pennies just to take to WDW for squashing! And to keep them from buying every one in sight - there are LOTS of them - maybe try to talk them into a theme. Do you have a daughter who loves princesses? There are LOTS of princess smashed pennies. Does your son love Mickey? Then how about getting Mickey in each of the countries in the World Showcase at Epcot wearing that country's hat? Or do you have a child that wants a penny from each attraction he/she rides? Themes! Disney has 'em.
I don't normally buy the pressed quarters. But I do have two books full of the pennies. Most of the quarters that I remember seeing were for the 100 Years of Magic celebration. That may have changed...

I think the autograph books are actually about 8 dollars. Not too much difference, but if you are buying 5 of them that adds up. WDWGrandma is right, when we were there in January we didn't have to pay to have names embroidered on hats at the Chapeau.

was going to say
i know that this may sound crazzy. But make your own books. you hav the charters sign the book, then take pictures, of course, then when you get home put the in a photo album, you can add more each time you go. Of course it might be to chezzy to do. but it might be fun for the kids to look back later?!?

The pressed quarters cost $1.25, with 5 kids you really dont want them just collecting random noes, get tehm to stick to a theme. Some machines require u to press a button, but a lot of them are a handle that you have to turn which can b hard work when its actually pressing, u have to turn it all the way to the coin u want then keep turning it until the penny is pressed, i had to get my bf to do this as my arm was getting sore, i saw a woman with 6 kids and they were all getting one penny from the handle type machine in mickeys toontown, we came back 5 minutes later and she was still at it.

We saved empty M&M minis tubes to carry our pennies and quarters in. That way each child had the correct number of each and knew what they had to spend...
But, be sure to pack them in your checked luggage - dd put hers in a carry on without me knowing it and was stopped at airport security to see what it was!
