Hi All,
I will soon buy a new Camcorder (my old Sony Handycam rather large and heavy compared to modern ones) here in the UK in readiness for our Disney Florida trip, and was wondering if I will have any problems with charging the battery since I think the UK and USA voltage are different.

Will I need some special adaptor (I already have a simple multi-pin adaptor)? Or would it be better to buy an additional Camcorder battery?

I'm not sure exactly what camcorder to get, but probably Sony HC32 (it has a 'docking station' which acts as a charger) or Panasonic GS35.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Ask the shop if you can look at the charger or docking station before you buy. If the input voltage is 110-240v it will work both in the Uk or USa no problem, all you need is a travel plug adaptor to plug it in the wall in the hotel or villa. If it says input voltage 220-240v only then choose another brand or you will have to buy a step down transformer. They're not dear but it's just a bit of extra hassle you can avoid.

Most battery chargers are dual voltage and I have never had any problems, but it`s worth checking in the manual.
If you have a plug adaptor then you will be fine [the US plugs have 2 square prongs which are smaller in size than ours].

A spare battery would be a good idea, just in case the one you are using runs low at a critical moment.

Thanks Slowhand & AlecK. I'll look out for that when I'm shopping around.
