Just wondering if I need a doctor's note to obtain a wheelchair for my 15-yr-old to use in the parks. He broke his legs in a Jan car accident but now is just wearing a walking boot on his right leg. He'll need a wheelchair for the distances at the parks.

That's good enough for me.
And good enough for WDW as well.
Just make sure you get there early enough to rent one. http://www.wdisneyw.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You don't need a Drs. note to rent a wheelchair or ECV. You should take one if you want to get a Guest Assistance Pass however. He should be ok for getting on and off rides though with just the walking boot on. Have a great time.

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping we can use a wheelchair from the resort, but then I'm not sure I want to hassle with it on the bus. A guest assistance pass is just if the disability can't be easily seen?

If you want to ensure having a wheelchair from the resort, you may want to consider renting a chair from an offsite location

Not sure, but I think resort wheelchairs (when available) can be used only at the resorts, and the park wheel chairs inside the parks. That leaves a lot of territory to cover without one!
I would look into renting one off site and having it delivered to your resort. If he's feeling up to walking, you can take a breather in it and he can push you!
Seriously, I wish I had though to do this for myself during our August, 2003 trip. I was hobbling badly, which affected our enjoyment to a certain extent. Although, when I needed to rest, Leu would go off on her own for half an hour or so while I iced down my leg. It worked!

Of course JM brings up a good point.
Is this wheelchair just for the parks?
I assumed it is in which case you you rent one within.

The wheelchairs at the resorts are for use around the resort.
If you need one in the parks these can be rented for the day at park entrance.

We're staying at Coronado Springs, so I had called there a few weeks ago. The CM told me that they had plenty of wheelchairs for us to use, so I assumed she meant my son could use it anywhere we went. It didn't occur to me to ask if it was just for use at the resort. Thanks for clarifying that; guess I better make another call! Just for anyone's information, when you stay at a Universal hotel they get you a rental for an initial fee of $10 and then $10 a day.
