About to get my Mom the Kodak Easyshare DX7440, with the printer dock (the simple one, not the plus version) Does anyone have something in this line that can give me input on it? I'm looking for something very simple, thats a compact size, that won't chew through batteries at the speed of light.

I liked it.... when you talk to gadget people (like me ;-) about it, we normally point out stuff with more manual controls but the truth is most people don't use those features anyway and you don't get much easier than the dx7440. I think she'll love it

I've been battling my brothers on this one. They would get her a rebel with a large format dye sub printer in a heartbeat... :hehe:
I like the longer zoom for the price, and it seems to have a decent lens, but I'm unsure of the size.

I tried giving mum one of my old dslrs... no go... then I tried a lovely 12x panasonic, no go. Finally I upgraded my ixus to the newest version and left the old model around and she loves that. Small enough to put in her bag and just click.

I have the Kodak DX6440 and I love it. Easy to deal with, cool functions (once I actually started playing with it). My DS has the DX7440 and he loves it. Takes wonderful pics. Mine isn't a compact size camera, but it fits in my purse, or a jacket pocket in a pinch.

We have a DX something or other. It's a 4 megapixel. It's a great camera. The dock is the biggest waste of money IMO. We don't use it.
The camera can also fall about 3 feet out of one's pocket and still work fine :D The battery hatch doesn't hold up so well.

I'm sooooo tempted to get her an Ixus, but she doesn't want anything to do with having to print out her pictures on her regular printer.
Johnie, too funny. :D Why is the dock a waste of money?
Bev, we were comparing it to the 6440, too. :D

I have a different series--CX--that I purchased in Orlando when I left my camera at home last December. Keep in mind that I purchased the least expensive camera possible that uses the same memory card as my "good" camera at home.
Overall, I like it. But the model I have eats batteries when you use the screen as a view finder. If you don't use the screen, you have to take some test shots with the view finder, as it's off a bit from the lens. I recall having that same problem with most of the Kodak cameras I has when growing up.
Hopefully, they've improved the battery life with the new series!

Is that the 700? I've been looking at that. I'm still using my trusty Ixus 400 but i've broke a few bits off it now  and it's been well used so i'm thinking I need a new one. I've fell out with the Nikon, it's far too big for me to carry round and too complicated for my needs. I was looking at the Ixus and the Canon powershot S70. Which of those do you think is easiest to use? I've found the Ixus for £298 and the S70 for £292, so there's not much in the price.
I'm leaning towards the Ixus, but I have a stack of compact flash cards already. Sorry to hijack your thread Mac

yeah know what you mean.. I have bags of CF too.. SD are nice though, and faster than CF.
The 700 is just like the 400 and all the others really... small enough to take anywhere, press the button, works perfectly and that's that. It'll attach to a nifty printer like that picturemate one we were all talking about with a cable, needing no computer in the middle etc. so very easy to print from.
The S70 is a bit more advanced.... although you can just "press a button" on that one too so end of the day either/both are great but unless you need something on the S70 I'd stick with the ixus ;-)

You DON'T need a computer with the Picturemate??

Just an update,
Although I love my Ixus and was wavering in the end, we did go with the Kodak and gave it to her. She cried. It was so easy for her to set up, connect with problem, and share pics with all of us, that I'm glad we did it.
