Very concerned about the lack of seat back tv's on our Air Canada flight. DH, DS and I will be fine but the girls will be just to small to be able to see the 'in cabin' screen.
My ibook doesn't have DVD capabilities and the portable in the car doesn't have battery capability. If I wanted to buy a laptop with DVD (not expensive, I have MY Mac, after all) or a portable DVD that can run on a battery which would I buy?
Headphones that have a 2way split? Where can I get those?

I realise I'll have to have back up batteries (they still haven't invented that 10hr battery!)

Can anyone help?

If you just want it for dvd I'd certainly consider one of those portable dvd players... they're under 100 now I think?

The other option is you could "rip" a dvd on say your desktop pc and then copy the file across to your ibook. You could then just watch it without having a dvd drive in your ibook... but to be honest, easier to buy one of those nifty little dvd units ;-)

We bought 2 for the kids to put in the car. The brand is Next Base and they're called a 'walking cinema' the disc goes inside the player rather than having a lift open screen and a base, so they're what they call a 'tablet' DVD player with a 7" screen and really slim and light. We paid £170 each for them, a bit more than some, but well worth it IMO! :D They come with a case, remote control, earphones etc. and you can plug them in in the car, they clip onto the headrests really neatly.

The kids had one for Christmas and they use it all the time in the car. However the battery will only last for a couple of hours so unless you can plug it in the plane you will need another battery.
I saw one in Mondays paper for £49.99!!!!!

We have one and we bought a little splitter attachment at Radio Shack that you can then plug two sets of ear phones into. Worked well enough for DH and I on a flight.

queenie, can you not get a dvd/cdrw or dvd/dvdrw combo drive upgrade for the mac laptop, like you can for windows based laptops?

if going for a portable dvd player i would go for a 7" screen- the ones for £50 are only 3.5 inches which is tiny and i don't think it would hold the attention for long. A backup battery would be good too.

Yeah, we've already got an 8" screen one but it doesn't work on a battery.

rw's are re-writeables. You can get drives that will play them. I think most laptops have that capability. It might be worth looking your laptop up on dabs or something they usually mention in the specs what can and cant be done.
