Why marking it May 5th when its anniversary/birthday is actually July 17th? Just something I learned when I started looking up what has happened that day as I got married on July 17th this year... so it will be my Anniversary ad well as DL's... purely by coincidence :)

kendog,
I have not idea other than it is the final preparation for the once-in-a-lifetime milestone of Disneyland® park's 50th Anniversary Starting May 5, 2005... :) (Maybe they are doing some "heavy lifting" which they want to remain off stage :) )

(I believe the 50th anniversary celebration will be an 18 month long celebration. :) )

Disneyland Park Will Be Closed to the General Public May 4

May 5 will kick-off the golden celebration of Disneyland, an event so big it's being celebrated at Disney theme parks around the world. In final preparation for this event, Disneyland Park will be closed on May 4. This will allow our Cast to completely transform the park into its dazzling 50th anniversary regalia. This day will also be used to host a sneak-preview for a limited number of invited Guests and media from around the world who will report on the final countdown to this extraordinary milestone.

On May 4, the Downtown Disney District, all three Disneyland Resort Hotels and Disney's California Adventure park will be open and welcoming Guests as usual.

At Disney's California Adventure park guests will have the opportunity to experience a preview of "Block Party Bash," a wacky, wild parade and dance party in the streets with all the favorite friends from Disney/Pixar films.
