Well, the school called today to say that one of my 9 year old twins fell and hurt her wrist. They said they thought she needed an x-ray and she just returned in with a splint and needs to go back on Friday to possibly get a cast.
The doctor didn't see a fracture but was surprised and also concerned about something else in her wrist that doesn't seem to be growning as normal so she's forwarding the x-ray to a orthopedic specialist.
ANYWAY.......... we are going to Disney in 2 weeks and I'm wondering how much a cast would affect her? Are there many rides that won't allow her to ride with a cast? I THINK we'll be able to get a cast that can get wet so hopefully that will not be an issue but I'm curious as to her limitations otherwise.
Anyone know?

I cannot imagine how a wrist cast would prevent her from getting onto any rides, don't recall any "cast" restrictions  .
If she were to ride something like Rock 'N' Roller Coaster or Splash Mountain she would just have to be careful that she does not overstresses her wrist grabbing onto to handle bars, but other than that she should be OK  .

That's great to know! THANK YOU!
She was pretty upset because the trip to Disney is a suprise for her so she THINKS we are going to Wisconsin Dells and staying at the Indoor Waterpark Resorts. She was SURE she would have NO FUN at all. This will turn out to be even better than planned
(well, except for the broken wrist part)

And just when you thought it was safe to relax about a trip
My DD decided to fall off a swingset when she was 6 and broke her arm right before a disney trip too. The good news is, she will have some of the most awesome autographs on her cast (make sure to take some permanent markers with you). Any CMs that notice will probably make a nice fuss over her too and if she is into pin trading she could try to look pitiful and that may help her get some nifty pins  The bad news is that she won't be able to ride any of the coasters because of her wrist because if she tries to hold on with the bad arm she could potentially do herself some real damage :(
She should be able to do most everything else at all 4 parks though and I can't really think of anything other than the rides that are jarring that she won't be able to do. Also double check with your doctor about just how wet the cast can get. Unless it's an aircast which can be removed to dry out and a spare one placed on her arm. But even in the pool she is going to have to be careful of that arm so that it doesn't get pulled on or twisted by someone.
Give your daughter a  from Aunty Breeze and just remind her that she is going to see Mickey and that she will have lots of fun

Oh that would be great :hyper: , having her cast signed by the characters, what a keepsake , just make sure they also sign her autograph book :D .

hey a couple of years ago my dd fractured her wrist days before going she was put in a cast but i went back to the hospital ( hubby took her the first time ) and asked for somthing waterproof and she got llike a splint that you can take on and off with velcro fastening skin coloured. she was fine and did lots of rides just took care with one wrist she went to the water parks as normal and had a good time she even got extra attendion from the characters at photo time with her poorly arm she loved it. only the suntan on all but half an arm was left when it had to come off. to be honest i made her wear a long jacket traveling in case the airline said anyting / not that they did or that we had saved long and hard for that hol and were not cancelling it for anybody/ i sound like a callouse mother but she was fine.

Thanks Breeze..
If it's just the rollar coaster she'll probably actually be a little relieved. Now she has an excuse to not go on them without her sisters calling her a baby. (she's the family chicken). I've been a little worried about her on rides like "Back to the Future" anyway because I remember being worried about my oldest (now 17) when she was 8.
Breeze, I JUST read your trip reports a few days ago and LOVED them..thanks!

A coaster whimp, she's my kind of kid (I don't do coasters) :D
I just read a post of yours that I missed. At last someone else who knows what the Wisconsin Dells are  I love the Dells for a long weekend, but it's sure not Disney

Not even CLOSE to Disney...but still pretty expensive which is why we decided that if we are going to spend the money..we might as well do it right!!

We live a couple hours from the Dells and I hadn't been there since I was 3 years old! Just has never been our kind of thing. Last summer, just before school started, we decided to have a 'last hurrah' and booked a few days at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Dells. It was great...we had a wonderful time. (Our son is 11 years old.)
This summer, we were going to go back to the Great Wolf (we probably still will for a day or two later in the summer), but it is a far cry from Disney. And you're right, it's nearly as expensive! Matter of fact, we got a room at the Contemporary for less than we could find at the Great Wolf!
Still...the Dells is pretty cool, as long as you stay at the resort and don't bother going into town.
OH...and I almost forgot the reason I came into this thread to start with! Last Sunday, I sustained a hairline fracture to my arm, but THANKFULLY that doesn't necessitate a cast. Just a sling for a few days, ice and painkillers. A broken arm in a cast would be a pain in the summer heat of Florida.

Yikes! :afaraid: Although, as Breeze noted, it's one way to avoid roller coasters!
I severely injured (technically, reinjured) my left leg in autumn, 2002, then reinjured it less than a week before a Las Vegas trip in April, 2003, and reinjured the thing again about two weeks before our WDW trip in August, 2003! :gairy: Let's just say I limped a lot and applied more ice packs than I care to recall!
