In the past, we have always used Dollar and picked up the car from the airport. We have had no complaints what so ever  However, in the past, we have always used Virgin package deals and the car was included....they always use Dollar.
I have been looking at quotes for cars that we can pick up from the airport and Dollar are quite expensive. Now, do I go with what I know or try a cheaper company....we are talking of a saving of over $500 with other companies over a period of 18 days.
What companies have you picked cars up from at MCO and, what condition were the cars in etc?

That is one of the things that is making me nervous...I am getting quotes online which are hundreds cheaper than Dollar! I am thinking of us running along with the car around us like in the Flinstones

Isa - do you have an Amex card? I use National, right at the airport in the garage, and the cars are wonderfully clean. There is a code on Mousesavers that gives pretty decent rates.

Mike.........the link you gave doesn't get you anywhere after the first page. You type in your details and then it goes off to do a search and you always get a blank page!
Mickeymac.....I don't even know what an Amex card is so, nope, don't have one

LOLOL! Well, then I won't give you that code then. :D
Try the Rental Cars (http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html) page over at Mousesavers for a bunch of different codes. She also has some in-depth information on the different car companies, sort of like a junior Consumer Reports.
I've found Dollar to be a bit expensive lately, too. I don't know what they are thinking.
The other thing I would highly recommend is to sign up for different companie's email newsletters. They often send out offers in the mail, and you can luck out through that.

Alamo, Dollar, National, all good reliable rents.
I'm going through usrentacar this time as it was the cheapest. I've used airline network & bon-voyage in the past. Both reliable. I've never once found a competetive price going directly through Alamo, Dollar etc. :(

Just the car.
Booking 2 things would constitute a package and you now how much I hate packages.
Each year has bought up different companies offering the 'best' price. Last year it was Airline Network, the year before Bon-Voyage, the year before that....errr..........I can't remember the name. This year it's usrentacar.
I search for hours........sometimes days.

Have a look at this site http://www.floridacarhire.com/whychoosefloridacarhire.htm They use Dollar, Alamo etc. We used them last year and they send you a voucher which you present at the car-hire desk - no problems whatever and no different o booking via Bon-Voyage etc.

We would also recommend Airline Network, we got a good deal with them last year (a Dollar car). This year though, we got a mega deal booking at Alamo UK. It seemed TOO cheap, so we phoned Alamo UK who confirmed the price was right and he agreed it seemed cheap, but he said they had reviewed their prices. It may be worth trying them. :)

Have had good luck with Alamo, National, Budget, Dollar & Hertz (usually the most expensive).
Diane, just be sure the insurance is included in all of the quotes and that it is the same coverage.
