I'm desperately trying to think of ways to keep my two boys amused on the long flight there (and back!)

The older one (10) I'm not so worried about as he can settle down with his own book but the younger one (5) gets very bored and moans a lot!!

They'll have a backpack each into which will go a notebook, puzzle/colouring book, comic, book, pencils, and a small electronic game (not very noisy), along with a few snacks and a small bottle of drink, and I thought we could play hangman but can you think of anything else?

I'm also hoping that as we'll be up earlier than normal they might have a sleep (pleeeeease!)

Thanks for any advice you may have

Asda have a few travel games, things like operation and connect 4. There are also alot of talking books around now, on cassette, you could always pick up a few of these for your youngest and a cheap cassette walkman. The books used to keep me and my sister amused for hours.

gameboys are a godsend :) also there is usually a good movie for kids on the tv. Sticker books are great to where they have to hunt where the sticker fits in.

How about some various decks of cards?

well you know, when i think about it they've probably got loads of things around the house that could keep them amused - i'll have to have a look and use my imagination!

thank you!

When we went two years ago my son was six and we purchase the Yatzee travel version had a great time with that - the Gameboy's are great and we let him pick out a new game but he couldn't play it until he was seated on the plane. Hours of entertainment value in that......

i just found some "trumps" cards they got for christmas which they haven't played for a while, so i've put them aside for the journey and i'm hoping that as the return trip is in the evening they'll  most of the way!!

What a good idea edg - food that needs lots of chewing will be best I think

Actually, it is ok to use small battery operated electronic games on board flight isn't it? Won't interfere with any controls or anything will it?!

GAMEBOY!, my dd and nephew were 5yrs when we flew to Scotland and the gameboy was what kept them happy, I had a back pack with books, colors, and travel games, but all they wanted was the gameboy. The movie they played to and from Scotland wasn't for kids so thank goodness for electronics. They got to tour the cockpit, and received a pilot sticker and comic book, but that was in 2000 before all the security measures don't know if they still do it.

My daughter loves writing stories so I will give her notepaper and pencils. I'll also take the Gameboys ( a new unused game seems like a great idea  ). Hopefully the Virgin flight we are on will have the Nintendo games but other than that a bumper book of wordsearchs, puzzles etc will be in the bags (probably Disney themed).

I think we're finally sorted - this is what they're taking & if it doesn't keep them happy then nothing will

A backpack each containing:
notebook
puzzle/colouring book
comic or book
pencils
small electronic game (not very noisy)
Trumps cards
Tamagotchi (which they've just bought themselves)
and a few snacks with a small bottle of drink

(I'm also presuming they'll get a kiddie pack from the airline)

Thanks for all your help

I always download some Disney wordsearches and crossword puzzles and they help to pass the time. Make some work searches of your own which can take forever to complete! The trusted gameboy is my favourite.
