If you have been there, please tell me about this "dueling piano" bar- age group, songs, food, cover charge, and how people were dressed. Thanks! :wiggle:

Never been inside. Can't stand the smell of smoke from the door. People dress fairly casually, jeans, non-tshirt top. Cover is $5 per person (or used to be, may be more now). From what I can hear outdoors, I never thought the pianists were very great, nor very good singers.
Songs? A pretty wide range, I'd say. Food? Don't think there is any, maybe snacks? Age group? Must be 21 or older to get in.
Not my idea of a good time, but folks seem to like it.

The cover in January was 8 dollars. When we went in there were two mediocre players/singers (although much better than I could do!). People were dressed casually and there was no food. They had free pop corn that you could self serve.
After about 1/2 hour a new pair of people came on. They were much much better. They take requests from the crowd. Most people gave their requests on napkins with a small tip attached. They did play a pretty wide variety from 60's right on up to Outkast.

I'd go with everyone elses appraisal!
Not great playing, not great singing, not much food and relatively high priced drinks... but somehow if you're in the right mood and can spare a few dollars now and again to hear a favourite tune, it can work out ok! It's just one of those kinda places :)

So Keith, in your honest opinion, would you prefer an evening watching Piano Bob at POR or an evening windiing up at Jellyrolls at the Boardwalk? We'll probably end up seeing both, but just in case I just wondered what you thought was best...

Keith, are they still allowing smoking inside the building? Since there is no food, they would be able to by law. :(
Not really a comparison between the two, Piano Bob and Jellyrolls. The old apples to oranges thing.

wow, Tink is right... apples and oranges!
piano bob is a fun (especially for kids) thing.... jellyrolls is an adult end of evening kinda thing.
I actually appreciate them both depending on my mood!
Im not sure I remember people smoking in there... and they did serve some, very limited, food I seem to remember (but it was a couple of years ago when I went)

DH & I went in one evening in February. It was $8 each; we went early while our kids were at the BWI's child care. We got there around 8; I think they start at 8:30. Oh yeah - it was Valentine's Day. We had fun and actually thought that the first set of guys we saw were pretty good - they did Aerosmith's "Dream On" (DH's request) and it was not bad! The second set of players was pretty good as well. Dress was very casual.
At the early time we went, we were about the youngest people there (mid-30's). There were some retired folks and some folks in their 40s and 50s. We stayed only till 10pm or so as we had to get the kiddies, but we would have stayed longer if we could. All in all, a fun night. To us, though, any night out alone with a few drinks and some live music is a good night!

Thanks for all of the information everyone. It sounds like lots of fun! We are going to go early in the trip so we can go back again if we love it.

My hubby and I LOVE Jellyrolls, we've had some great nights there, if you like music, enjoy singing along and just want an easy going night, this is great. Whenever we go its not a good night until I hear 'Benny & the Jets' !
