still go on even when it rains?
We are leaving on Wednesday 5/11, and according to weather.com There will be chances of isolated T-storm on Thursday (Illuminations) and Friday (Fantasmic)..... :(

I know it's still early and the forcast changes all the time, but just in case...do these shows still go on?

Thanks!

Illuminations goes on rain or shine, well, not really shine since it's at night :rotfl:  .

Fantasmic does get cancelled during inclement weather since there are live performers.

Wishes? Haven't experienced a performance getting cancelled, but cannot think why it would be  .

Thanks SorcererMickey.
OK, this next question may sound dumb, but do they cancel Fantasmic even if the rain is light (drizzle)? Again, thanks in advance! :)

It depends on many other factors. Even if it's not raining or just a light drizzle, if there are thunderstorms with lighting close, or very high winds, they will cancel it.

After all, Florida is the "lightning capital of the world" and prone to "dry lightning".

Remember also that isolated t-storms usually happen in the afternoon this time of year (and into the summer)

I believe they now have a special shortened version of fantasmic if there is inclement weather which I think just does the water sprays/fireworks and other effects without the live actors clambering around. Much like they have a similarly shortened version of indiana jones stunt spectacular.

However, it was raining (more than light drizzle) in March when we went to see fantasmic and they waited awhile to make sure there was no lightning and did the full show anyway. So they do seem pretty good at going on with fantasmic (versus pretty bad IMHO at stopping indiana jones even for light rain)

When we watched Illuminations last year there was the most almighty storm I have ever seen, the lightening was "bouncing" off the floor, I have never been so terrified in my life! :afraid: However, the show went on as promised, even if you couldn't see or hear the fireworks for all the noise of the storm!. We hid inside the building at Mexico for a while then made a run for the resort bus. Despite wearing our ponchos, by the time we reached the bus, our feel were squelching in our trainers and all our clothes were well and truly drenched!!

We also watched Fantasmic during a "dry" lightening storm, it was delayed for half an hour to make sure the weather was OK, and was quite spectacular with the lightening behind the fireworks!

I was quite amazed that everything seems to go on as normal during a storm in Florida, everything comes to a standstill here in the UK and we don't get them anywhere near as bad!

@ tracyw - been there, done that & got the wringing wet t-shirt, except we were under a tree near Canada - not something I'd want to repeat.

We watched Illuminations once during a pouring rain while hiding under the entrance to The American Adventure show. Wouldn't you know, the rain stopped right before the end of Illuminations. We went to Fantasmic once when storm clouds started building. There was some thunder, and we were told that the show could be cancelled. Luckily, the storm moved north and the show went on as scheduled.

I do hope that this is going to be the case when I am there so it won't ruin my favourite nighttime shows! :fingers:

Rainy season in Florida runs from late May through the middle of September. Generally you'll see the storms in the late afternoon (around 3-4 p.m.) but an evening storm are not unusual. We get some pretty spectacular light storms.

The summer months are, on average, the wettest months for Orlando, FL. My experience with the wet weather at night has been few and far between. Just two years ago Florida was going through a drought, but this year we in the panhandle are 15 to 20 inches over for the year so far. One time they predicted rain almost every day we were at WDW, and it hardly rained. It's just one of those things that you have no control over.
