View Full Version : Can't choose

We have decided that it might be better to stay in a moderate resort because of the size of the rooms (my 14 year old brother is coming with us to wdw), the free fridge and the coffeemaker, but we can't decide.

My heart says Coronado Springs because of the Mexican theming. We love the Maya Piramids. But people say the resort is huge. But my question is, how huge. Say in kilometres or in miles? And I love the fact that we could walk to Blizzard Beach. And its close to most parcs by bus (we don't have drivers licences)

Carribean Beach seems nice to. Bigger rooms according to Passporter. Nice theming, but far away from the parcs by bus. But this resort is huge too. Again my question: how huge in km or miles?

Then you have the Port Orleans resorts. For me the theming is not what I've been waiting for. I've been to southern France many times so it's not that special for us. But I like the idea of being close to DTD though.

So tell me you thoughts?

I liked Coronado springs, it can be quite a walk from one side of the lake to another to get to the themed pool but there are buses. We were there in December so we werent' concerned with swimming and there are smaller pools in the sections of accomodation. I liked the theming, the restaurant was good - i have heard people grumble about having to paya service charge for the counter service - you order and they bring it to you. It is more of a conference hotel so has more of a 'businessy' feel to it but its pretty and clean etc etc. I haven't stayed at any of the other Moderates so can't tell you about those. Personally though i would save my money and stay in an all stars resort- they are much more 'disney' but that's me.

Coronado Springs is the one Moderate that we HAVE NOT stayed at, so I can't really say how big it is. I have heard that it is the largest as far as how much it is spread out however. CBR is also quite spread out. POR and POFQ are much more confined.

Okay, first let me start by saying that although CSR is basically right across the street from BB, you cannot walk there. You really can't walk to anywhere other than right within the resort at CSR. They do not have sidewalks leaving the resort and you'd have to walk out in major traffic to do so. Now...that said though, BB is right across the street and therefore, the bus ride there is short  I too have stayed at all the moderates accept for CSR. They have a great pool though from what I hear and their food court setup is very different from all the other WDW resorts that have them. I hear that they seat you there rather then you just picking your own table...not sure about the service charge for the counter service -and that you order and they bring it to you. ? But that very well may be  You may want to ask about good bldng.'s to request at CSR...that seems to be the key at this resort due to the fact that is is quite spread out. If you know where to request, you may end up happier. As for the other moderates...CBR is my least favorite of them. It was very spread out, and the main pool was very small for the amount of people it served IMO. The hot tub was right in the middle of the pool near the waterslide and had tons of kids jumping in it as a result...not very relaxing  The food court set up was also lacking but this was before the resort went through a major rehab so perhaps it's better now? But I personnally have no desire to return to this resort. As for POR and POFQ, I highly recommend either! I know you mentioned something about not caring for the theming ...something about having been to the south of France? Now, I've not been to the south of France but....the theming at POR is more to the American South ..as in South Carolina or Alabama/Louisianna....the southern states of the U.S.A. Think Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn and southern mantions....and Byou's. I'll PM you a link to some pics of the resort, maybe if you could see pics it would give you a different idea of the theming. FQ is actually also southern theming but more Louisianna Mardi Gras...Iron railings like you'd see on the bldng's on Bourbon Street, cute little cobble stone roads for sidewalks...very nice. FQ is also alot more compact and a quick walk to the main bldng. and food court, bus stops and the main pool ....you can also use the pools and ammenities at both POR and FQ as they are Sister resorts :D The bus service is excellent at both ...especially at FQ (they are the first to be picked up and first to be dropped off when coming and going to the parks being that they share buses with POR.
Anyway....that's just my :twocents:
Best of luck on your decision

Coronado tips, if you choose to go there:

Request the Cabanas as they are close to the main building/foodcourt/bus stop.

There are CMs driving around the resort all the time who will give you a lift in their carts.

I've stayed at Coronado. It is big but I didn't think it was unmanagable. We had lots of fun there.

I've stayed at PO French Quarter, PO Riverside and Coronado. That's in order of preference. I'd never stay at Coronado again, I had a horrible experience there but others have loved it. I *loved* French Quarter myself. The resort is smaller which is nice after a long day. I was steps from the main building and the pool (or should I say hot tub :D) It was quiet and I didn't hear a peep from my neighbors.

We did not like crs. too big and spread out. food court was pricey even by disney standards. Rooms were nice though.

Port Orleans riverside rooms were even nicer, food court was good, pool was just as nice. landscape and decor were more interesting.
