if you are on a really tight budget....
my suggestion is to not stay at one of the Disney resorts/hotels. many of the surrounding hotels have free, scheduled shuttles to Disney, are usually between 2 and 10 miles from Disney, and are A LOT cheaper. if you do have enough you should try to stay at a Disney resort because it adds to the "experience" and you do get certain benefits. hope this helps!

For me, as an AP holder as well as a Florida resident, staying onsite is almost as cheap as staying offsite sometimes but I have all the added benefits (My favorite being the evening EMH) A good code can go a long way :)

I enjoy staying on property because it is part of the expirience. Just isn't right when you don't stay on property.

We stayed off property once, a Holiday Inn Family Suites, it was nice but didn't like the shuttle. It picked up for Disney twice in the morning, and picked up at Disney three times. If you didn't make it in the morning pick up you are out of luck, plus the bus fills up fast, I had to sit on the floor of the bus one day. :( You couldn't go back and take a nap because they didn't take you back to the parks in the evening (we had a 5yr at the time). So we only got to go in the mornings, plus it was hard getting info on the parks, because no one knew anything. It is much more fun staying at Disney, and the people are alot nicer. It also cost us more at the HInn then it does staying at the All Stars. :)

How much do you save on average with a disney hotel code:wiggle:

We've never stayed on property (yet) but as a family of five space is of slight importance. TBH I'd rather stay off site with in a suite or a condo than pay extra for a rollaway at a moderate on site.
A lot of people say it's not the same 'off-site' but as we spend so little time in our room anyway it makes no real difference to us at the moment. No doubt if we did stay on site I may change my mind lol but for the space we need I'd probably have to stay at a de-luxe which is way out our price range. Next year we are off-site but after that I plan to try FW cabins

In Nov./Dec. I paid $49 a night plus tax ($55 total) for a room at Pop. That's the lowest I've encountered. I've gotten a moderate for $69 plus tax ($77 total)

Not only do you sometimes get the savings that JM mentioned, there is the added convenience of being able to ship stuff back to your room without having to carry it around all day, the EMH, and having your room key also act as your charge card.

I love being able to shop and send stuff right back to the resort!

You can have your package sent to the front of the park and pick it up on the way out.
I have stayed at the values for $49 plus. If your able to get an awesome code, I'd defnately stay on site. You won't find a better deal than that.
But, there are many amazing places to stay off site as well. You can get some good deals and other amenities.

True, Johnie, that you can do! But if I am on the bus going back to the resort, I hate lugging all that stuff back with me. The buses are usually so crowded at the end of the day.

Lat year we split a trip between a 2bdrm villa and two rooms at the AKL. I paid an average of $140./night for the villa and $330./night, AP rate for the two rooms at the AKL. My two boys and husband prefer off site-especially the sports/fitness amenities. We stayed off site first and the rooms seemed really small after having all the room in the villa.
My daughter likes both but when the two of us travel alone for a quick trip, prefers on site.
It's really a personal choice as to what you like and where you want to spend your money. Both can work out well.

We had a really bad offsite experience on our first trip :( ... bad and unreliable shuttles, horrible service, filthy room, and to top it all off we realised that eight months after our visit, the hotel tried to take money from the credit card we had used to pay for the room there! Definitely not worth the cheaper prices!
Second time around we decided to stay closer and got a great bargain price for the Hilton in Downtown Disney, which was so much more better in every way :)
Next time we're going to be staying at an Official Onsite Resort and are hoping to make an AP saving :fingers: Although this will still work out to be more expensive than we've paid before, but we hope the whole "Disney Touch" and convenience will be worth it

babybelle we are a family of 7 and the FW cabins are the best! We love them we even asked the kids this year if they would like to get two rooms at one of the allstars/sports/pop century ..... nope they chose the cabin again.

we have always stayed in a minimum of a 3 bed villa and will always do so, we are on a budget but cant see us staying in 1 room for two weeks, and from the prices ive seen the villa option is much better imo especially with bigger families staying onsite would cost quite a bit more, as you would need to rent 2 rooms, but saying that staying in a villa you would have to rent a car of sorts but you are not restricted in having to wait around for as mentioned unreliable shuttles etc. there are pro and cons to both options imo :D
