I am already planning for the next trip and I haven't even left for this one:lol:
Actually I am taking my Girl Scout Troop next October for 5 nights. I don't have a definate count yet, but I am figuring that I am going to have 10 girls, 4 parents 4 children tagalongs (for a total of 18 people). what do you think would be my best bet for room options to stay on Disney property?

I would definitely consider one of the All Star Resorts or Pop Century for a group of girl scouts.

Much would depend upon rates, eh? You might get really lucky and have a good rate at one of the resorts that allows five to a regular room (WL, or Fort Wilderness).
If you wanted to go to the effort you could explore renting points from a DVC member and having studios or a couple of two bedrooms. Or studios with a two bedroom so you have a full kitchen and laundry. Some sort of combination like that.
Do you want all the rooms to be one next to the other? That might be a bit tricky. Adjoining would be nice, but that's pretty tricky too, something about only if adults are not in the room? Not sure, but Mickeymac or Cinderella will help with those sorts of particular details.
Sometimes the moderates have very reasonable rates. You could try one of those. They might really enjoy CBR with it's brightly themed grounds and neat pool.
Lots of options for you!

I was thinking about renting points. I thought that might be a neat option. I was looking at the price differences at some of the different rooms and trying to figure out what is best. I lookes at what the straight out cost at the ssr would be 10/12-10/16 $2600. We only have 7 points left for 2006 (although I can see DH stringing by my toes if I used them on a GS trip that he wouldn't be here for:lol: ). I'll have to do some math and figure out what the cost difference that way would be.

We only have 7 points left for 2006 Okay...so this means you are a DVC member. That helps. Not so sure you'd be able to convince that large of a group to rent points otherwise. Mainly because if you are a member you don't have to rent the points by way of having the member who rents to you just make the ressie in your name. You could rent the points and have them transferred into your own DVC acct. and then you would retain total control of the points that way. Much safer, particularly if you're talking about using other peoples money to rent with (I'd assume you'd be using the GS troops $$ ?) Anyway...still safer since you could then retain control of the ressie. Perhaps you could rent points and get a studio per each parent you'll have with? Or something to that effect?....as OKWTink mentioned .... so many options.
You may also want to call CRO (or get in touch with Cinderella or Mickeymac here on the boards) and ask what they have available as far as the Magical gatherings goes...that way they could better tell you what they have available as far as keeping a large group together.
Best of luck and let us know what you decide on in the end! :micball:

Are room prices for Magical Gatherings a lot cheaper. We are getting great ticket prices through Disney's Youth Group Program. $122.96 for a 4 day hopper/student 2 chaperones free. For every 5 student package purchased adult package can be purchased at a student price.
Meal coupons can be purchased at 9.62 each (lunch/Dinner) which I have figured into the cost. The only thing that isn't is the rooms which is why I am trying to work out the best and most economical way to go. I know I definately want to stay onsite with the girls. I am so excited about this and I know the parents I have this year are too.
Another question...When will be able to make reservation for rooms for 10/06. We are working it out at the beginning of Girl Scouts next year that the parents that are interested in going should have to put a $50-$100 (possibly non-refundable) deposit/person going (haven't worked it out yet). This way I have the money to put down on the reservation.

Another question...When will be able to make reservation for rooms for 10/06As far as I'm aware, you can make ressies up to 2yrs in advance. Problem is that if you reserve that far out they will reserve at rack rate which is the highest amount they can charge. Discount codes (if you qualify for any) won't come out until a few months before any given check out date and the rates per season may not be set yet...they'll go by the highest season from the year before from what I've heard. Not sure if this is all the exact way of it but this could be a potential problem if so.
As for if you rent the points, as you already know, it will be just 11months in advance at your home resort or 7 months at a non-home resort.
The good thing at this point is that you have plenty of time to plan and make all your decisions and gather the info. you'll need to be able to do so.

Well, you said 10 girls and 4 parents with a sibling tag-along to each parent. Therefore, I'd suggest if you have the points getting either adjoining rooms in the values or moderates with 4-5 in each room. 4 rooms with:
1 parent
Sibling tagalong under age 3
3 girls
or 1 parent
Sibling tagalong over age 3
2 girls
If 2 tagalongs are under 3 it works out to 4 adjoining rooms.
Is you have the money and or points and the girl's parents want high-end accomodations, I'd rent a Grand Villa. Those sleep 12. Then a 2-bedroom next door. Those sleep 6. There you have it, accomodations for 18.

I wish I was fortunate to go on a trip with the Girl Scouts, the farthest I went is to Sea World in Ohio.
I guess you would def want to check out the value resorts. Plus, fundraisers!!
