I really like port orleans....

It's quiet, beautiful and I love the boat trip to downtown disney in the evening. They also have piano bob at POR which is a must see.

I second POR, I just love the atmosphere, beautiful grounds. Also I find the food court extremely convient and much better priced than I originally would have thought. I also love the ability to ride over to FQ and eat at that cafeteria and one of the best parts of course is the boat ride to Downtown Disney.

Either POR or POFQ, though I favor POR myself.

If you do not stay at POR, I guess you cannot take the boat ride to DTD?

Thanks.

Paula :){Whitequeen} Anyone can take the boat to DTD. Even if you are staying offsite.

If you stay at POR OR POFQ the boat to DTD is available at either

That said, FQ would definetly be my first choice followed by a very close 2nd for POR. FQ has the edge being that it is smaller and more compact, and the bus service stops at FQ 1st before going over to POR and and then out to the parks (so you almost always get a seat even if the bus is full) and also 1st when coming back from the parks (very nice if it's late at night and you're tired) :). Plus staying at either of these 2 resorts because they are sister resorts allows you the privelge of being able to use the pools and ammenities at both! So you get 2 great themed pools with hot tubs and waterslides for the price of 1 (plus the other 5 quiet pools  ). The foodcourts at both are great too and the rooms have been recently referbished at both also.

As for the other 2 moderates....I personnally have no desire to go back to CBR. Didn't care for it as it was too spread out and not as nice as POR. And the main pool was too small for the amount of people it servies...the hot tub there is at the bottom of the waterslide and had way too many kids jumping in it (talk about unrelaxing :( ). Also didn't care for the foodcourt setup there but this was all before they referbished the resort about 2yrs ago so if the theming appeals to you then decide for yourself. I just have no desire to return

CSR I have yet to try as I just can't seem to want to go there rather than POFQ or POR  I hear it's quite spread out but as long as you know what bldng. to request to be near things it's manageable. Lots of conventions held there too I hear. The pool though is what I hear is a big draw and may be worth the stay for that alone. It's near BB and AK if you'll spend alot of time at either of those parks...hmm...

Anyway.....there's my :twocents: :whisper:

Best of luck and pixie dust to you!

Thanks for all your advice. I think I have decided with Port Orleans but now I have to decide between FQ and Riverside.

That's a tough one.. I've stayed several times at POR and have visited POFQ but never stayed (hope to in December).

POR is massive. I'm not sure that's as bad as people often say. There are plenty of bus stops dotted around and the size helps with the theming! It has the full service restaurant (which pofq doesn't, you have to use POR's) and piano bob in the bar.

POFQ is smaller, much smaller and so it has a different feel. It does feel more personal, intimate and romantic of an evening... but then you have to go to POR for the restaurant which is a pain (IMHO).

Frankly I don't think anyone could really advise you on this one because it will be SO much down to personal taste. All I can say though is I don't think you'll go wrong with either one! You may end up thinking you wished you'd picked POR for the restaurant/theming or you may end up wishing you'd chosen POFQ for the size/feel/theming.. but that just means you have to go again to try the other one ;-)

You could always split your stay between them? They'd move all your bags and given the proximity, it would hardly be a major move :)

I guess people all have their sentimental favorites.

I prefer Port Orleans as my favorite Moderate Resort.
The Poly is my favorite Deluxe Resort.
Pop Century is my favorite Value Resort.

Between the Riverside and French Quarter sections of the Port Orleans Resort, I would give Riverside a slight edge - it seems more spacious and uncrowded to me. I guess as a Western American, I like the wide open spaces of the POR - which is more spread out.

I don't see why first-timer WDW guests would want to pay the extra money for a Deluxe Resort, if their main focus is the WDW Parks. It's part of my Scottish background to save money. On the other hand, I am luxury-conscious enough not to try any Value Resorts, although most families are happy enough with them, I've heard.

Do they still have Piano Bob over at DTD? I wonder if he knows my favorite song "Sweet Georgia Brown"?

I've stayed at 3 of the four moderate hotels and If I had to pick one to return to it would be POR. I liked the pool and the boat ride to DTD. The only thing I didnt like was the restaurant(Boatwright),the food was terrible. :)

Hmmm....had the exact oppossite reaction to Boatwrights  We love this resturant for both breakfast and dinner. Try the French Toast Dixie style! ooops  actually now that Dixie Landings is now POR, they renamed it...I think it's now called Crecent city french toast or something like that....but wow! YUMMM

My vote, without question, is POFQ. It's much smaller then POR and the pool is a lot of fun. I just love it there. That said POR is also very nice but it's it's much more spread out. You'll have a longer walk to the pool and the food court. The resort is very nice though.

I stayed at CS on my honeymoon right after if opened. BIG mistake. It's very beautiful. But HUGE! From our room you'd need to rent bikes to get to the lobby area. There was a Sonic (fast food chain) convention there at the same time. Loads of people and not too child friendly because of that.

I've never stayed at CBR but haven't heard too many good things about it.

Good luck and have a great trip :)

Well, I've been feeling that way, too, but, OTOH, I've read a lot of great reviews regarding CBR, so, I think we're just going to stick to our original plan and stay at CBR. It's already booked and from what I've been reading, if we change resorts, there will be a fee involved.

Anyway...would love to hear from anyone who has a positive opinion about CBR. :)

When we arrived a CBR in Nov. 2003 I didn't like it. I didn't like it, it was busy and noisy and I didn't want to stay. After 3 days or so I began to enjoy myself there. The pool bar area in the evening was fun. It was noisy but it isn't near any rooms. Even the music made me happy. We were there for 10 nights and at the end I realised that I did like CBR after all. The only thing I still don't like is the reception being seperate and a long way from the Food Court etc.

Give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised. :D
