Well money wise I'd say it's usually cheaper to go DIY rather than get a package.

Some packages work out to be a lot more expensive, for example, when we asked Vigin for a package quote for 2 weeks at the Grand Floridian for next summer it came to about £8000 - including everything: flights, tickets, room etc. But now we've decided to go DIY it's a lot cheaper - not sure of the exact amount but cheaper by thousands!!!

However it does depend on how much time you have to put it all together and the details of your trip - how long, where, when... etc. Sometimes you can find some really good package deals around!

If you need more help deciding give us some details of a possible trip and we can help you compare it all up

Hope that's of some help :ears:

I've only ever managed to beat a diy deal once with a package. That was virgin holidays who came up with a last minute mega cheap deal. Every other time, diy has been cheaper and more flexible. I didn't see any advantage at all in the package other than the "rep" being available who was useless anyway.

It seems to me that it's the per person bit of the package that makes it silly versus diy where I just pay for a room not a per person fee.

I've always gone on a package but this year have done it DIY and was really pleased with myself as I'd managed to save over £400 on a Disney hotel and four nights cruise. I'd done this by booking flights with Travel City Direct from Manchester to Orlando, the cruise and Caribbean Beach with Smallworld Vacations who've been absolutely brilliant and the transfers with Quicksilver. Yesterday when I was flicking around the Disney site, I put some prices in Disney.com and it came out as £910 for our 10 night stay which is exactly what we're paying through Smallworld. When I put the same dates in Disney.co.uk, it came out at £800! I've emailed Smallworld to see if they can get a reduction in the price as my so called good deal isn't looking so good anymore. It's still cheaper than any package in the UK but I just feel miffed!

It may also be worth contacting Mickeymac or Cinderella [our resident travel organisers!] who may be able to sort out a good deal for you.

I agree with all the above our last DIY saved us heaps and that far outweighs the hassle saved by going with a package

I've never been sold on a package. usually when I do the math it doesn't come out that great. The best deal I can recommend is getting an annual pass. you won't beat that deal on lodging and all you need is one in your family. It's usually only worth it for us if we are staying at least a week or so or are going to go back again in a 12 month period. Of course we buy one for the whole family so just buying one would cut back on the cost so it may be worht it for only one trip.

I'm now delighted! I phoned the number at Disney UK and they explained that they offer a discount for UK visitors and confirmed the lower price. Smallworld refunded our deposit so I'd certainly recommend a DIY deal. We've done packages before and we've saved a great deal of money this way. I wouldn't do a DIY for a first time trip unless you've taken a lot of advice and feel confident with what you're doing.
