We have booked a cruise in June on the new mexico itinery (West Coast). My daughter is just turning 12 and it sounds like she will be allowed to come and go from the kids center without being checked out but she is worried that she will be "stuck with all the little kids". I am little worried about letting her hang out with the 13 and older crowd. Any thoughts>
Also..how dressed up do people get on the formal nights?? I'm thinking cocktail dress attire - are there many in formal and tux???

The "Oceanear's Lab" is very good with working with the tweenage kids. They will split the age group into smaller groups. She can also let them know if she would like something different - that age group is encouraged to branch out and explore if they want to.
I would be cautious of letting her into the teen cruisers. You won't know who the other kids are, and will be discouraged from whatever she is exposed to. It's a lot more 'hands off' than the Lab and Club are.

THANKS - that was my feelings. What type of things can we "pre-book" besides shore excursions?

You can register for children's clubs (such as the Oceaneer Lab) book Palo's, and spa treatments. I highly recommend taking advantage of Palo's!

Can`t help on the kids issue as my DW and I don`t have any!
On the formal evenings, we found that around 40 - 50% of our fellow passengers wore a tux [the male passengers that is! ]. On the other hand, we saw many people dressed in smart casual attire.
I hired my tux from on board [booked in advance] to save lugging mine over from the UK. Dressing up "posh" did make for a good photo opportunity, especially when we had one taken with the captain.
Your cocktail dress attire would be fine, so long as you don`t accompany it with trainers! :rotfl:

On our cruises, most men were in suits & ties. Do what's most comfortable & you will be comfortable. A cocktail dress is also very appropriate. You'll see the whole gammut from shorts (ugh) to long formal gowns.

Ya never know, Slowhand. Ya never know. However, for a DCL, you're probably right.
