 Hi, I was hoping you kind helpful folk may be able to suggest/ recommend some rides or other activities for my two kids. They are two boys aged 8 & 5. I have looked at quite a few of the popular rides, but I am a little concerned they might be a little afraid. I don't want to put them off, by taking them on something that scares the life out of them. Any help/advice would be most welcome.:)
For example...what would be the best introduction for them.

There are any number of rides that won't scare the daylights out of them. I know this, because they are my favorites! :D

In MK
Peter Pan's Flight
Snow White
Aladdin's Flying Carpets
Dumbo
Teacups
Carousel
Probably Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (I'm NOT a coaster fan and I can handle this one)
Haunted Mansion
It's a Small World
Winnie the Pooh
The Indy 500
Goofy's Barnstormer

Probably others, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

EPCOT has
The Land Ride
Spaceship Earth
Maelstrom
Rio del Tiempo (Mexico, not sure of the spelling)
Living Seas
Ellen's Energy Adventure

MGM
Not really good with this park. But I do love the Star Tours ride.

AK
Safari
Ummmm...the rest are really their call. Some kids love the Dinosaur ride. It scared the wits out of me!

Hope that helps a bit!

There are a number of shows at each park that aren't rides. Some are a bit gairier :gairy: than others. Haven't seen it yet, but apparently A Bug's Life at AK can terrify little ones--just depends on each child!

Some rides have a minimum height, so that could eliminate those, with or without the :gairy: factor!

They'll probably surprise you with the rides they want to try. Just be ready to zig instead of zag if they change their minds! :)

The Incredible Hulk, Kraken and Duelling Dragons should be OK for them.

Only kidding

A good idea is to go to the "home" page and then go to "parks". In this you will find details of every ride/Attraction at every park. You could then sit with your children and go over them all and see what they fancy.
Be brave

On our first trip to WDW, my daughter was a month shy of 5 years old. I had read about all the rides and planned to start her off on the tamest- SW. She cried the whole way. She was convinced something scary would happen. Even after going on the ride and seeing nothing scary happened, she wouldn't go again. After that, I gave up, and we met characters and saw shows, and just enjoyed walking around. We had an absolutely lovely trip, although we only rode that one ride.

One our next trip, she was braver, and we rode Peter Pan and SW many times. She also rode POTC, although she didn't hate it, she thought it was scary.

On our last trip, she rode nearly everything. I am not a huge fan of rides- it was not big deal to me to miss riding the first couple of trips. As long as she was having a good time, I felt like the trip was a success.

So, if it turns out your kids aren't ready to ride, you can still have a great trip. Actually, our first trip to WDW is my favorite, because of all the sweet memories I have of being with my daughter as we saw everything for the first time.

My boys are aged 10 and 5 - they loved everything they went on - I did not!!

They didn't do Krakken, RnR coaster, Hulk and any other HUGELY GIGANTIC rides that I may have forgotten but they did do ToT (yikes) Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion and pretty much eveything else. My 10 yr old was a little wary of going on Jaws but thought it was great once he'd been on!

Test track and Soarin' at Epcot were fun, as were Men in Black, Buzz Lightyear, Winnie the Pooh - golly, loads f them were good fun.

I researched all the rides and marked off what I thought they would & wouldn't like, then talked about the rides with them - they made their decisions which were pretty much what I had worked out, and on the actual park days they decided to try out a couple of rides they thought they might like after all - you have to plan but also need to be prepared to change those plans if required - just go with whatever happens. - ooh, one other thing that made it easier for us is that they preferred to do rides than watch all the shows, apart from Lights,Motors,Action and the Seaworld shows!

I think you've got to go with what your kids want. The first time we went my son was 5 and I kept him away from all the biggies - Big Thunder Mountain etc, even though he wanted to go on them all ( he probably wouldn't have made the height restriction anyway). The next time when he was 6 I let him choose all his rides and he loved everything. His favourite was the Tower of Terror!

Last year he still wasn't tall enough for Duelling Dragons and the Hulk and I don't think he will be this year. If you know that your child has a tendency not to be scared of fairground rides, then go with the flow. You're the best judge of your own child. You'll have a great time no matter which rides/attractions you choose. My son after coming off the the Tower of Terror then wants to go and see the Little Mermaid Show!

Don't forget the buses and the boats, they are Grace's and mine favorite rides.
