I have just received the following notification from DCL.
"Due to guest feedback, there will be a slight change in the rotational dining times during your voyage. Guests currently scheduled on Main dining will be assigned a dining time of either 5.45 p.m., 6.00 p.m. or 6.15 p.m. Concurrently, guests scheduled on Second Dining will be assigned seating times of either 8.00 p.m., 8.15 p.m. or 8.30 p.m. It is our hope that these staggered dining times will provide for greater ease of movement throughout the ship prior to and following the dinner service. Please check your dining tickets located in your stateroom upon arrival for your assigned time and restaurant rotation.
In addition, each evening`s entertainment options will be arranged to compliment the revised dining times. Nightly entertainment options will be detailed in the Personal Navigator that you will receive in your stateroom"
Personally I reckon this will be a good move, and will hopefully avoid the lengthy queues which can build up outside the restaurants when all guests line up to enter at the same time.

Not sure I like it. We chose the earlier time because Donna doesn't do late dining too well. Don't really want 5:45 though and what happens if our traveling companions, who had the same seating, now get a different time?

I would not worry about it too much USC. If you and your friends are checking in at the same time, you could make sure there and then that you get the same time slot....we will have the same dilemma in July, so I`ll see how I get on and let you know.
Even If you do not check in all together, I am sure that DCL would not like to split groups up.
On our previous cruises, although we were seated with a couple of other families who were strangers to us [the same families each evening so we soon made friends], our server did not take our order until everyone was seated at our table, and any late arrivals were caused by the length of the lines outside.
I think the main reason behind this really is to spread out the lines as people wait to be allowed into the restaurants.

Well, I'm pretty sure we will be checking in at the same time as our traveling companions (darned sure, to be exact...), so that shouldn't be a problem. And Cinderella, our awesome TA, will surely be on top of this change!

USC & Donna- I'm pretty sure that as long as your ressies are linked, you'll be fine. They will see you want to stay together.

And this issue got all worked out before I even had a chance to panick!
Unless we miss the scheduled pick up at the airport...or we loose each other in the boat/ship check in area...I'm sure we'll be together..oh wait, we're going to tie ourselves to each other right?

Slowhand are you on a 3 or 4 night cruise?
Currently this is just a test run on the shorter cruises for this year
We haven't gotten any notification of it being the case for the 7 night

Yes Cinderella, we are doing only a 3 day cruise this year.
I always said that I would never do one this short, but this year I am funding the cruise for my DW and I along with a couple of close friends who are coming with us, using my DVC points, and this was all I could "afford" points-wise.
I had to use them or lose them!
I could have gone down the route of renting out my points, but I did not want the hassle, so I decided to go down this route instead.
