We were trying to think of something for our 4 year old to put on her in case she got lost - we didn't want to buy any fancy gadget over the internet - we didn't want anything around her neck - and we needed something water proof....
We went to Walmart and found a "Dog Tag" Machine. Torrie now has a cute metal tag that looks like an American Flag - it has her first and last name engraved - and both mine and my DH's cell number on it - I plan to write our Hotel/resort info in perm. marker on the back.
We will either try to figure out a way to lace it to her shoe or create a bracelet with it......

That's a really smart idea. I think it would work fine on her shoe. Then, once it's there no one would have to mess with it.

Does she have more than one pair of shoes? I would get one for each pair of shoes she will be wearing...and a spare to somehow put on a swimsuit strap or something for when she is not wearing shoes.
Great idea...I plan on using it for my 64 yoa Mom!

most important thing to rember is your childs shoes of the day. Once our neigbhors child was lost in MK and the first thing that cast members ask them about their child was what is she wearing especially what color shoes she had on. Aparently when there is an abduction they bring loose fitting clothes & even a hat to discuise the children but they never know what size shoes to bring so they stay on. Just something to think with the small ones, you can never be too safe in the parks

This is an Urban Myth - more details here (http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/kidnap.htm)

When i wasin boots, they had a small yellow bangle something like £1.50, where you could attatch it round a show lace, and it says TURN THIS BAND OVER and when you do, you can write a description of the parents. so if anyone found them(not like trying to abduct them) they would turn it over and it has your details on, so they could help the child look for their parents

why not use a lead type thing to tie around your childs waist then slip the other end onto your wrist?

i think its safer than a dog tag, as they are always attached to you :D

what about a sticker on the inside of their top with their name and your mobile number on it
i always made Caitlin stay in her stroller so that she wouldn't get lost and we always told them what to do if they did- when young they had to go into a shop/ride and find someone with a white cm badge on - when older and knew the park really well we would arrange a place to meet if lost (won't work with a four year old though obviously) and it wasn't the castle lol- you need to be specific too.

okay coming from a kid who had this done to her and then rebelled it's not fun.. for us they got tangled and mom would accidentally yank me.. everyone is so concerned about losing kids in disney but the dog tag thing should work. The CM keep a very close eye on kids and would notice if anything went wrong

We used "leashes" when our girls were toddlers, but now they're almost 8 and 10 years old. I like the dog tag idea. We made something that had their names, our cell phone numbers on them and laminated them, so that they could wear around their necks. But the dog tag idea seems even better. Thanks!

Right now the badges CMs wear are gold - at least the CMs at DL wore gold badges.

Hello all,
We used a dog tag with our name, the name of the hotel, and our cell phone numbers. Our 4 year old was instructed to show the tag to a disney worker if she ever got lost. She never did but we all felt better knowing that little tag was on her shoe. Even when we were not in the parks it was nice to know that it was available if anyone should need it.

i saw little kids with leasehes on, and they did not seem to enjoy it, i like the dog tag idea better, in universal, at the gift shop in the entrance they had a dog tag machine, where you could but the childs/dogs name and you number, they had nice character designs on ( betty boop, scooby doo etc.) and you kid could pick the one they like most, also for an extra 2.50 you could buy a chain to put it on so it would go round there neck, i got my dog a scooby doo tag!

Yeah, great idea! They also have those machines at the Wal-Mart where we live.

The id tags from Walmart are a great idea. When my DD was small, I bought a supply of hospital ID tags from the hospital where I work ( they only charged me a couple of dollars for 12.) I printed our info on them and put one on my daughter's ankle every morning over her sock ( I cut it off every night for sleep).
I also bought one of those things that alarmed when child got more than a few feet away from you. This was a good reminder to her to stay close- in shops especially it kept her from wandering off while I was checking out.
