View Full Version : Talented stained glass crafter!

Did you know that we have a talented stained glass crafter on our site? I just found out recently... Luvthemouse is learning to make beautiful stained glass items. She even made a suncatcher for me! Knowing my love for all things "Mickey", it isn't hard to guess what she made. Yup, a stained glass Mickey head! I have it proudly hanging on a window overlooking our front porch!

She also showed me a beautiful stained glass "panel" that her sweet hubby confiscated as his own! I wish I could describe it... It was square, I believe, and made up of different beautiful pieces of stained glass. In the middle was a Mickey head!

And the amazing thing is that she still has all her fingertips! I'd be a mass of cuts if I tried doing stained glass...

Anyway, I wanted to show you the beautiful piece she made for me:

Oooo, that's very nice. And such a pretty color. :D

I tried to watch a stained glass maker on tv and I couldn't handle the sound of the diamond scraping the glass. :afraid: So, I can only be around the finished products.

She is talented, isn't she? My photo doesn't nearly do it justice. I wasn't quite sure how to take the best possible photo of it to display... But when I see it in the window when we get home, it brings a smile to my face!

I wish I'd taken a picture of the piece her DH kept for himself... It was so beautiful!

What makes it even better is that it was hand made. Luvthemouse, thought enough of you to take time out of her day to make you something very nice. I love hand made items. It just makes me feel special.

That panel was soooo beautiful. I know Mike wanted to take it home!

Krista was very thoughtful and made each of us (me, grandma, JuniorMickey and miraclemoments) a Mickey head suncatcher. Mine is red and is hanging in my office window :)

I do too! Especially when it's something I love but don't have the talents or skills to make!

When I lived in Indiana as a child, there was a glass factory a block or two from our house. On the weekends, when it wasn't open, we used to sneak down there and look for marbles and pretty pieces of colored glass!

Then, oh 25 years or so ago, they opened up a gift shop there and called it the "Op Shop". They had artisans that made beautiful stained glass items. My cousin Judy worked there for a few years after she graduated, I found out.

Anyway, my best friend (and head of the college computer department) used to buy her lab assistants (of which I was one) special pieces from there. One time we were all complaining about being "mushrooms" (I'm sure you all know the old saying about mushrooms). So she gave each of us a stained glass mushroom that was on a base to make it stand up. And she gave me a devil with a pitch fork because I was raising "heck" one day in the lab! And because she and I both sang in the church choir, she gave me several musical notes to hang in the window! All these things she bought at the Op Shop. And I still have these very special gifts!

http://members.cox.net/btoon/100_0459.JPG Mine (which is, of course, pink) is so beautiful...I unpacked it, and Baleigh went bonkers...After LOTS AND LOTS of begging (on Baleigh's part as well) we compromised...it STILL *belongs* to me, but we have it *showcased* in her bedroom window...it's lovely!! And it matches her room perfectly!! Thanks again hon!

I was going to ask that everyone, when they bring their favorite alcoholic beverage, bring German Beer and/or German Wine.

I told Donna that she could do Lobster Luau next spring.

Johnie
