After enduring very hot and humid weather( 90's everyday for at least the past 3 weeks) with barely any rain, we got hammered today . Finally ! Yesterday was the hottest yet, it was 98 with an index of 105 . Nothing compared to Arizona, but not normal for NJ. Today it was just as hot . About 4 PM , gray clouds started to move in , this has happened before and before it did anything, the sun was blazing again . But today would be different, just as we were closing the sky turned an eerie pitch black and Kaboom ! I swear the building shook . The sky opened up and it was pouring with hail . We all ran out to our cars to close the windows. The Lightning was treachrous. I've never seen it so bad and the thunder was so loud . I looked at Kim and said *this does not look like an average thunderstorm . It calmed down enough for us to get to the car again . I needed a few things from the grocery store. As we were driving, old, old oak trees were split right near the roots and were toppled in people's backyards . Thank God the trees had not fallen on someone's house or car . All of a sidden out of no where it started again . The rain was coming down so hard I had to pull over . Then came the wind so strong that it actually rocked my car . :afraid: All of a sudden this thing whirled right along side of us and went up a back street . I said *Holy Cow Kim, did you see that * . We both sat there stunned . I started the car and we drove up to the store . The street that it had gone up was the same area of the store . Pieces of homes and trees were scattered about . Garbage and cans were sprewed on over the street . One utily pole was cracked in half and wires were sprawn about . I didn't even go into the store, I just drove straight home . As I parked my DS came running out and said MOM we just were hit with a tornado. I said, I know I saw it . He said, where and I replyed it went right by us . The weather man reported that the winds we felt were 70 mph . :afraid: It was still raining pretty good and the wind was still blowing . I have to say, it felt wonderful as I stood in it for a few minutes until my DH yelled get in the house before you get struck by lightning . It is now sunny, but extremely cooler, but we have another warning for 10PM . I think I'll stay up to see it . After all, if it's as strong as before, it will probably wake me up anyway .

Wow, Tink! We're southeast of you, I guess - and we just got a bit of strong wind and heavy rain - thank goodness no tornadoes! The rain was only enough to stop the kids baseball game in the middle of the 1st inning and then off and on for the next 2 hours or so. I haven't seen the tv, so I don't know if there are any warnings here or not.
Stay safe - I know the wind and cooler air feels good, but it won't feel so good if you get hit by lightning or a tree!

Pat thought it was a tornado, but that hasn't been confirmed yet . It was either a tornado or a huge funnel cloudburst . The forecast is for dangerous thunderstorms .

Sister Tinker. Dearest. GET IN THE HOUSE AND GET UNDER THE BED!!! After your recent luck with inhalers the last thing you need is to flirt with the dangers of a thunderstorm that is spawning tornadoes.

NOW GIT! :runaway:

Jeez Louise Tinker! I agree with everyone here! HIDE!!!!

We got hit hard also...and living in a travel trailer is NOT fun in a storm like that. Trees all leaning over, lightning and thunder so bad even the animals were hiding!

I mean, I know we need the rain...but not all at once!!!

Wow what weather! Glad to hear you were alright. Our weather is a little tamer but still had a brief storm around midnight last night that kept me awake for over an hour :(

Yep! We're experiencing the same thing. I wasn't home the other day (and there were no storms where I was 35 miles away) when a storm hit and didn't arrive home until well after dark. Let's just say that my rain gutters will never be the same!

Agree with you, Bev. We need rain, but not all at once!

The good news is we've had two relatively cool nights (in the low eighties insstead of nineties!), and the high temp has been in the 100 to 105 range. We're supposed to be close to 110 today, and it's already humid. Yuck!
