While in a local craft store here in the UK, I got chatting to a lady from Florida. I told her that I was looking for a scrapbook to put my Disney memories in and I was stupid not to bring a book back from our recent trip. While on holiday, I had no idea that I was going to get into scrapbooking so I didn't even go into the store at DTD.
She told me that the best place to go if I ever went back to Florida was a shop called Michael's at "Downtown Florida"
It wasn't until I got home that I wondered if she meant Downtown Orlando or, was there a place called Downtown Florida too?
So, anyone heard of Michael's? Is it in Downtown Florida or Downtown Orlando? :thanks:

LOVE Michaels :)
Their website is here (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/home) and if you buy a Sunday Orlando Sentinel there is often a 40% off coupon on their ad :)

There are 4 Michaels in Orlando proper and 8 in the greater Orlando area. Perhaps Sorceror Mickey or one of our Orlando locals can tell you where the nearest one to WDW is located.

Thanks for the link to the website JM:thumbs:
There are a couple of Michael's quite near the Doubletree Hotel which is where we are staying at the end of the year. We will have passed the Michael's on Sand Lake Road and the one on Kirkman Road at the beginning of the year.........but, as I said, I wasn't interested in Scrapbooking then:)
I can't believe how inexpensive the albums are compared to here:sigh:

Yeap, I'm here.
There is one in front of the Florida Mall.
Another one on International Drive and Kirkman Road, next to Sweet Tomatoes :eat: . Very close to Wet 'n' Wild. This one is also next door to an Office Depot and a huge book discount store. Between all those, I'm sure you would be able to find everything you need  .

There also is a new JoAnn ETC near the new Super Target. Someone will have to rescue me here. I know how to get there, but not the street names!
It wasn't open yet last December. As you enter the shopping center, JoAnn's is on the left, Super Target on the right.
There is a small JoAnn's outside the Florida Mall. Smaller store, smaller selection. I would hold out for the JoAnn ETC or Michael's.
Also, check to see if any of the Orlando Michael's are considered "super" stores. They don't include that in the store name, but the stores are much larger (nearly double the size, in some cases) and have more merchandise.
Not sure, but I think Florida may also have Hobby Lobby stores--if they haven't been gobbled by one of the larger chains. I've never been in one, as they aren't in the western U.S., but you may want to check that out, as well.

You'll find much more scrapbooking stuff at Michael's than JoAnn Fabrics.

Sadly--from my viewpoint!--JoAnn's has a limited fabric department these days. Most of it is craft or home decor related. :sigh:
The JoAnn ETC stores have a decent scrapbooking section, although not as extensive as Michael's. The smaller JoAnn stores are cramped and have limited supplies of everything!
When Cloth World (acquired by JoAnn's) first came to Phoenix, then California, we were in heaven! Supermarket sized stores of fabrics!
Ah, well! Perhaps one day the tide will turn once again in favor of those of us who sew! :)
