I've just returned from a fantastic two weeks - 10 days at the CBR and four nights on the Wonder (I'll do a report later!). It was our fourth time in Florida but first with TCD and I have to say - never again! I was a bit apprehensive after reading the reports on here but was intially surprised as the flight was quite pleasant. We flew out on July 28th after a short 30 minute delay which the pilot managed to make-up, the food was palatable and I found more leg-room than on previous charter planes.
On arrival at Sanford we were kept waiting for around 40 minutes at the luggage carousel as one by one all of the cases were removed. About a dozen passengers were left when a tannoy announcement informed us that 19 pieces of luggage had been left in Manchester inluding mine, husband and son, leaving us with nothing but the clothes we were standing in! A Sanford airport luggage representative came to us to fill in a form and said that the luggage would be here at the earlist opportunity, more than likely tomorrow and to purchase what we needed through our insurance. I then went to the TCD desk who did not even know that the problem had occurred!
Friday 29th - I rang the number we had been given at the airport at least 10 times in the morning for an up date but each time there was a recorded message on the voicemail which was full! I then contacted TCD office at LBV who were 'aware' that there had been a problem but did not know when the luggage would arrive. They gave me the number of TCD desk at Sanford who I then phoned. The supervisor was not due in until the evening and the member of staff on duty said that the luggage would arrive on the flight from Manchester at 18.00. We spent the day at the MK and at 19.00 I again phoned the airport number (usual voicemail) and the TCD desk. The supervisor informed me that she was far too busy to deal with my query as the Manchester flight had not even left therefore she had hotels to find for over 500 people and virtually put the phone down!
Saturday 30th - I take medication for severe migraine which foolishly I had packed in the suitcases and I was beginning to feel the ill effects. I again rang the airport number (again voicemail) I rang TCD desk at the airport which was engaged for at least an hour. I finally spoke to a colleague who had no idea when our luggage would arrive. He told me to ring back when the supervisor was on duty. I did as he stated and spoke to her again. She was unhelpful and said that it all depended on the Manchester baggage handlers and that TCD could do nothing from Florida. I asked had they made Manchester aware that this was a priority and she was very offhand with me and said that other passengers were also ringing her with the same problem!
I again rang the airport after the flights had landed and finally got to speak to someone who could not inform me whether our luggage had arrived as 'it was chaos in the arrivals hall'. I again spoke to the supervisor who said she was on her way to check. By this time I was quite tearful on the phone due to lack of medication and just generally being fed-up. It seemed that two days of the holiday had been wasted and no-one at TCD seemed to be doing anything to sort out the problem. She told me to phone back in an hour. I did as she asked and her comment then 'Stop ringing as the airport staff are really busy and can't sort out any luggage. If your baggage has arrived it will be delivered either tonight or tomorrow'. I said, 'It has arrived then?' She replied she didn't know and put the phone down!
The baggage finally reached out hotel 7.30am Sunday 31st July.
I would never travel with TCD again. When the problem occurred, they were not interested in helping and their customer service skills are zero. It was interesting that on the flight back, they do not hand out a customer satisfaction form!

if that were me i would have rung her ****** neck i can tell you, how disgusting this treatment of you was, how a company is STILL allowed to carry on trading in this manner beggars belief, it really does.

oh that is shocking and i am flying with them on the 19th of september from glasgow, mind you heaven help ruth if the same thing happens when we go out as poor ruth will get a quick lesson in customer service. .......potentially even worse for Ruth is my parents are travelling from glasgow to manchester by car then flying with tcd at the end of september and Ruth really doesnt want to rub my mum up the wrong way.(a 4ft 10inch wee woman((which she will tell anyone her height)) that used to be a security guard at ibrox and parkhead.....and she held her own..:club: ha ha..i am glad you still opened you post with fanatstic time though as you still had a good time though.

:ohdear:

And with these on-going TCD reports, I don't think we need anyone telling us that "its only a small part of the holiday". TCD's usual lack of professionalism wasted 2 days of your holiday, worrying. These are the knock on effects - lack of good customer service CAN effect more than the flight.
So glad to hear the remainder of your trip was great and looking forward to hearing all about it.:ears:

According to the Manchester Airport site the TCD/Air Atlanta flight from 11.15am Saturday morning has still not left and it is now Sunday.
Who do these people think they are? British Airways!!

I think that's the problem with TCD, it's just not consistent.

speaking purely personally, I wouldn't risk it.. especially not when you can now get other airlines around the same price or cheaper!

:iagree: totally Keith. We were considering them for next year, but I wouldn't want to risk it now, I'd rather pay more and fly with Virgin to be honest (did I really say that? :D )

They are getting a bit more consistent. Of the two flights from Manchester on Friday one left 9 hours late and the other will be leaving today.
Todays flight will be leaving tomorrow and tomorrows on Monday and so on.

It's not very reassuring for all those people who are booked with them - I've just sent them a letter of complaint about our non-delivery of luggage so am waiting to see what their response will be.
When I telephoned them I was informed that 'customer services does not have a telephone number' - What a surprise!

You're so right :( but on the flip side, there are many more people tempted to book with them and hopefully we can save them some heart ache or at least, let them know the potential pitfalls of going with tcd.

We certainly will never use TCD ever again.
Having saved for a holiday of a lifetime for our family of 2 adults & 2 children (aged 11 yrs & 13 yrs at the time) we had booked with TCD to fly to Sanford from Newcastle Airport July 2004.
Just a few weeks before departure we received a letter from TCD advising us that our holiday had been cancelled as they were no longer flying from Newcastle Airport. I immediately rang 'customer services' who advised me that I could have my money back (which would mean no holiday and 2 very disappointed children) or we could pay £200 extra per person and fly from Manchester. I pointed out that it is actually more expensive to fly from the smaller airport (eg Newcastle) and asked why were we being asked to pay even more money? The reply - I could have a refund, no explanation! As it was such short notice for changing our holiday we ended up paying another £800.
Needless to say we will never deal with TCD again.

Absolutely scandalous :( TCD should have paid for you to get to manchester, paid to get you back afterwards and given you compensation! never mind expecting YOU to pay more money :(

If anyone's ever in this position again, phone trading standards. They're very very helpful indeed.. if you have no case, they'll tell you, but otherwise they'll phone/write to the company concerned and see what they can do for you

Thanks Keith - never thought of that at the time - all I could see were 2 very upset children and of course we just had to cough up the extra money!

:iagree:

I needed them once and they were fantastic. They often act for you as a go between as well if you need them to. Also, it's amazing what happens when you tell a company you have been consulting trading standards :D

Lancashire T.standards came and presented to our law course last year and I was really amazed at how much they do! I kinda thought of them as going round markets grabbing people for pirate dvds (which they do  ) but they were giving out pens/keychains with their number on and really encouraging people to call them when they have consumer law issues. Since then I've recommended a few people call them and they've been extremely helpful!

Trading Standards were brilliant in our case against the man we bought our Galaxy from. They even visited us several times at home to get all the details and keep us up-dated. We won £1600 in the end due to their peserverance and they've passed on all the details to the Leeds area TS office who are now persuing him for other cases

Well, we didn't think we'd get anything when we were told they had issued a warrent for his arrest and he couldn't be found ( he had several identities:rolleyes:) Then we got a cheque in the post  so knew they must have caught up with him. There's many outstanding cases against him in West Yorkshire apparently.

And often, if trading standards can't help, the citizens advice can offer help on where you stand legally
