Hi everyone, Im back from Vegas with some rather interesting news,
On a bus trip the courier was telling us all about up and coming attractions. She said that Disney had bought land North of the Las Vegas Strip to build a new park. Anyone heard anything about this.

They said the same to me in 2001..... not that it couldn't be true this time of course, but it's at least a fairly frequent rumour.

I mean it could be just a rumour - but this lady seemed to know a lot about what was going on. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Disney, through Disney Enterprises, owns lots of real estate interests around the US. It all adds to the value of the Disney stock and helps to diversify it.
There are "rumours" like this in every area where Disney owns land. Some are developed (mountain lodges, ski resorts) and some are not developed, Disney just keeps them for it's value.
Hilton Head Island was one of those places where Disney owned land, and in this case, developed into Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort (http://www.disneyguest.com/images/hilton_head/).
Check-out it's location, it's in the middle of Hilton Head Island. Zoom-out to see the entire Hilton Head Island. This aerial was taken before the resort was built.

Haven't heard the rumour, but it's likely they do own property there. Whether they will develop it or sell it is a mystery to us all. Property values there have increased incredibly in recent years, so they would be in a good position to sell it.
I don't see them developing a theme park in the area, but a planned community on the order of Celebration (different theme, though) could be a possibility. A resort would be iffy--Las Vegas is leaning more toward adult stuff again and less families. Not impossible, just less likely IMHO.

True. Did you know they are knocking down Excalibur and Circus Circus because they are too child friendly?

Havent they basically sold off Celebration in the past few years though? IT doesn't sound like something they'd want to get back into.

Circus Circus is a dump and has been for many years. Its dirty and not really that child friendly. I did like the theme park though. I loved the indoor coaster we rode it so many times as there werent to many people in the park.
I am a little surprised about Excalibur do you know when its closing?
I would say knock down Stratusphere as well its in a not very nice part of town, although the views are amazing.
Luxor is one of my faves and Treasure Island.

Haven't heard about Excalibur, although I did read something about Circus Circus (never been a fan)...
The Luxor is quite nice...but I'd have to say my fave is The Venetian. *sigh* Lovely place.

Yeah, Luxor was fab! Venetian was beautiful. New York New York was lots of fun too. Also, the lady said about a Six Flags opening there. Oh and Bally's is being knocked down to extend Paris.

I've been in August and when we stepped out of the car (we were driving thru and spent the night) the heat was SOOO oppressive. You'd never know it once inside the a/c is cranked.
When we lived in Texas we heard thru the construction grapevine that Disney had bought a bunch of land and was going to build a park around Sherman. I thought it was a long way from an airport, and I haven't heard anything more about it since then.

Yes Triciacarole it was hot. But it was pleasant. I love the heat though so don't be fooled! It was hot but it didn't take your breath away like the Caribbean heat. The sun was scorching midday but wasn't unpleasant at all.
