I reckon you`ve made a good move David.
Cat 9 has only a porthole I believe, whereas Cat 7 has a Navigator`s Verandah?
If so, you will have a large [around 5 ft. diameter] open porthole on your verandah which is great if you want to take in some air and watch the world go by as you cruise along.
We had one of these on our first cruise and it was great.
On our last 2 cruises though, we went a stage further and went for a cat 5/6 which was completely open from the verandah.
Also as you are higher up on the ship. you will have a far better view of things as you arrive at your various ports of call.

Definitely a good move
Do you have an inside Stateroom or Verandah?

David, nice job! Cat 7 rooms have the verandah, so gives you some outdoor privacy on the ship. Take advantage of it and order a bottle of wine with cheese and crackers some night and watch the sun set. Also deck 7 is primarily Guest rooms, so does not share with other common areas like Deck 2 does. You're also higher up off the water!
Did you ask for the upgrade, or was it given to you?

I have a Verandah,
I upgraded this because it's our first cruise and maybe our last holiday for a while, as someday i have to look and buy a house.
Is that something that can happen?? Upgrades??? as by the sound of it i would really like to have a cat 5 now slowhand, has given me more info.

Sadly it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to blag an up-grade at check in as the manifest for the ship is sorted way in advance of the sailing date.
Don`t worry too much about it though as a Cat 7 is just fine.
After all, there will be so much going on during your cruise that you won`t be spending much time in your stateroom anyhow.
