The kids are making beads out of Fimo. Never used this before and there are no instructions whatsoever in the pack. Does anyone know if we are supposed to use the glaze before we bake or after? :hehe: We tried without and the Fimo goes really dark and we tried with and the glaze stuck to the tray  I've no idea how hot the oven's supposed to be either. I did it at 200º Please :help: :D

looks like it should be done after once they've cooled ~ thanks! :D I've wasted loads of clay and ruined their beads. I should have googled it first

it stinks to high heaven when you bake it. I want them to invent vanilla or cinnamon scented clay. My Dad would try to eat it then...

Could you not put a couple of drops of flavoured food essence in it when you kneed it? Just a thought as I've never set eyes on the stuff in my life.:)

It amazes me to see all the different things crafters make out of polymer clay! Beads, picture frames, flowers, boxes, ornaments - TONS of things! However, this is one craft I've had no interest in getting involved in.

Callie has a gorgeous Mickey/Minnie style bracelet made from polymer clay beads and swarovski crystals. I bought it off Ebay, but i'm into making my own these days, so I thought i'd attempt to make Lois a similar one. We have loads of bracelets made from Fimo beads. :D

A few hints:

If you use kitchen utensils/pans for polymer clay, they are dedicated to that. Do NOT use for food preparation after using them with polymer clay.

Dust your baking surface with corn starch to minimize items sticking to baking surface.

If working with rounded objects, place some batting on the baking tray and dust it with corn starch before baking. It will keep the objects from rolling around.

Look for instructions with baking time. I don't have any clay on hand at the moment, but I think the instructions are 20 minutes (at temperatures in Queenie's post) per .25 inch thickness of clay. It could be .125 (1/8) inch, though. I haven't used it for a couple of years.

When making beads, be sure to pierce the holes before baking. The clay shrinks just a bit, so make the holes just a tiny bit larger than you think you need. A bamboo skewer usually works well.

Oh, I'd love to see it! Pictures????? All the stuff I've ever seen has been on TV crafting shows. I'm not sure I've ever seen a finished product in real life.

If you make your own jewelry (even if you buy the beads) I'm still in awe!!!!

I watch a show called "The Carol Duvall Show" on HGTV and when the folks come on who do jewelry, it is amazing to watch them! I'm sure I'd pinch a finger with the pliers or poke myself with a piece of wire!
