Have just discovered quite by accident that apparently the Wyndham Palace Resort and spa is no longer a Wyndham. I happened to email Wyndham by Request the reward programme who said that this hotel as from 16th August was no longer participating. Looking at the Wyndham.com website it now seems to be called 'The Buena Vista Palace Resort & Spa.

Does anyone out there know whats going on? Has the hotel changed ownership? Has anyone been recently and can you shed any light on this. We are booked to stay next May for our first trip to Florida and although we are not worried about a name change it would be useful to know whats going on etc? I understand that the bedrooms are to be re-decorated, could this be part of the change? and has anyone been this summer who can let us know what its like?

Thank you so much....Excited family, with nothing to talk about other than Disney!!!

that's truly weird! That's what it USED to be called before Wyndham took it on and renamed it.

It's still on the Wyndham website though which is strange if it's been taken over.

Well first email came back without answering whether they're still a wyndham or not just confirming they'd changed their name  very helpful, not.

Seems that the Arthurs 27 restaurant will be closed permanently from august 27th as well to become an events venue. Kind of a shame, the view from there was amazing and the food was nice too + the free champagne at sunset :/

Hope they don't close their outback restaurant too.

and the second email
"Dear Keith,

We are no longer a Wyndham hotel. We no longer participate in the Wyndham ByRequest program.

At this time we do not have another participating program."

The Outback Restaurant will still be in service for your enjoyment. The Watercress Cafe will also be open.

The Kookaburra Lounge is also closing.

wow.... quite a few changes then, not just the name.

I'll kinda miss arthurs27 and the laughing kookaburra

Thanks for this Keith, Having not stayed at the hotel before obviously don't know what we are missing by these two restaurants closing. Your emails to them came back a little vague too, someone must be running this hotel, do you think it could be operated without a parent company?

I think we will try ringing or emailing Virgin who we are going with and see what answer they come up with......

Has anyone stayed here recently?

Well it could be independant and not part of a chain sure? but it's pretty big to be that way :/ they REALLY weren't forthcoming with the chain name if they were part.

In terms of what you're missing... arthurs 27 was their top of the tower restaurant. It had a nice bar which served champagne free at sunset and a nice, upmarket restaurant menu. The laughing kookaburra was a nightclub/bar usually frequented by convention goers all having a let her hair down night.

After staying there and trying both, we often return to go to the outback restaurant (which they're keeping) rather than arthurs 27.... but we noticed that the outback wasn't as good in march as it had been so :/

It's still a nice hotel in a great location though
