we've never had any trouble. The one time we did fall "victim" (the only word to describe it) to a random search, they just checked the name against our passports and put them back in the bag.

A friend of ours though has a lot of more "drug" like medicines for her condition and she did get a doctors note just in case.

We take loads of medicines with us, and I mean loads. As long as the name on the medicines matches the traveller you'll be fine. A repeat prescription note can be taken with you to.

Like Whitequeen, we just take our repeat prescription with all our medication listed on it.

Should be fine as long as they have your name on, I think most drugs used here are used there. May be worth finding out the actual name rather than the brand name incase you need to re-stock, as drugs have different names in the US.

Whitequeen and Katie do you mean the other half of the green prescription slip?

If you've got the green prescription slip with the medications listed on it, that'll do the job.

I was just about to ask the same question.

Thats good to know I dont have any repeats on me at the moment but going to the docs just before I go so that wont be a problem.

If it seems like common sense and the logical thing to do, do it  .

Problem is doctors will charge you for it so you want to be sure you need it.

IMO, a justifiable expense for peace of mind  .

In case of an emergency, a copy of the prescriptions might prove useful if it became the only way of communicating and letting a doctor know what current medications a person is taking.

Also in case of a refill if the medications were to get lost. So many scenarios...

It seems like common sense to me to have it handy...

A while ago there was a story in the papers about a british woman who had presribed drugs on her that were not legal in the paticular country she had travelled to (can't remember which one).she was arrested and held for days until she could prove that her doctor had prescibed them for her.
Im sure that wouldn't happen in America but you never know.

That was Bahrain or somewhere like that I believe. It was a tranquiliser which she'd took for the flight, when she arrived they found it and drug tested her and charged with her Possession of a Controlled Drug.

@triciacarole - yes it is the half of the prescription slip which you tear off and keep when you give the other half to the pharmacist at the chemist. This has a copy of your list of medications and your name/address which is all that is needed.
