Just joined the Virgin Flying Club. Should have done it a long time ago really, we are in the Frequent Virgin Holidays club but
I never thought of it. So what can I expect? Is it worth it? It's a shame I can't redeem past flights I have about 10.:blush:

I don't think there are any other benefits for joining except earning points.
I have the same problem as you, i only recently joined and have about 6 previous flights that i can not earn points on. I think they will only backdate 6 months.

Is there a joining fee? We're thinking about going to New York in January with Virgin so I'm thinking we could use it then.

No, there's no fee. Each time you fly, you earn the amount of miles you fly. When you have 2000 miles (easily covered in one trip!) you qualify for miles and money fares which gives you a discounted fare. The more miles you earn, the better your upgrade etc.

If someone refers you, they get a bonus after the first time you fly.

Basically it's a sweetener to encourage you to fly Virgin more! :wink:

There is a 6 month time limit that they stick to. They won't backdate past that. Wish they would, i'd be laughing! If your Las vegas and wedding trip were both Virgin and within the last 6 months, then you can definitely get those backdated. :thumbs:

And, we get points on our Delta flights at Christmas and our Air Jamaica flights at Easter. I can't believe it!:D

Yes, 1 mile per £1 spent on standard card and 2 miles per £1 spent on annual fee card. You get bonus miles for signing up, 4000 with the annual fee not sure about the other one and if you spend £15k in a year you qualify for a companion seat. :)

No, no miles for balance transfers. A companion seat is a seat you buy completely with miles (not a mix of miles and money) by buying a matching seat at full fare. ie. buy a PE return seat and get one 'free'. We recently got ours for the wedding trip and paid £2k for 4 PE seats. :thumbs:

I agree with that I've totted up a lot already and only joined in June. I try to be organised and every time I spend on something that I would have usually used my debit card for, ie shopping, I transfer it into a separate on-line bank account so I do not get too much of a shock at the end of the month :)

For referral you only get the points if they have booked certain seats(I believe direct with virgin not a package) and also booking seats(with companion) you are limited to availability and can only book them within a few months of departure.Also you cannot upgrade a package holiday flight.

No I'm afraid not Bec. If you want to use miles book with VA and arrange your own car. We usually find it's quite easy to get a good fully inclusive rate on a car by shoping around a bit :)

Okay, thanks AlecK. It often works out cheaper to do that anyway - we just get our 10% discount with VA - so we usually go for that. But what I have thought is I could just book my accomodation with VH - and get my 10% dicount and get my flights from VA with my miles. :wink:
